Does anyone else have a problem with sever static from their D/A. When the air is dry I can see sparks fly from my fingertips when I exit my truck and grab the handle to close it. It is really annoying and buggs the @#$% out me when I stop to fuel up. There are gas nozzels right next to the diesel. Tried static guard/ didn't work. Tried to ground the chassie, didn't work. I'm out of ideas. Any ideas or cures?

Almost everyone in a dry area will have static electricity problems. You can avoid it by installing a couple anti static straps. I've bee in places in New Mexico where I got zapped taking a leak. I got in the habit of touching my keys to the door handle before going into my motel room.

Dodge had a problem a bunch of years back with a bad ground, I think. I get zapped all the time with my Chev.

You should see the wife trying to close the door. Its commical. I think it is because ( I am guessing) that you slide across the seat, building up static electricity. Try usung the plastic handle to close doors. I just grab the frame and close it.....

I dont have the problem with leather seats but did with the cloth seats on my old truck.

The only way I found to cure it was to hang a metal cable or chain from the frame and let it touch the ground.

If you put it close to the front its harder to see from under the truck.

I used a length of 1/8 cable, ground a clean spot off the frame around one of the existing holes, formed a loop in the end of the cable and bolted it to the hole.

I cut the length of the cable to where it just touched, worked like a charm.

You would think that it would wear down but going down the road the wind blows it back a few inches to where it does not rub on the road.

Painted it black and it was hard to see.

OH....one other thing, if there is snow or ice on the ground it sometimes would not work.

Thanks HD-Nate ansd Max Owner, iI will try those solutions to my problem. that should carry me through. Maybe I didn't clean off enough metal when I put the drag chains on.??

Put a cling free sheet under the seat. Will also make it smell laundry clean ;)
This worked in my monte carlo

Just hold onto the metal part of the door when you slide across the seat to get out.

We took out a dyno with this very issue. ;)

Cost quite a few bucks to get it back in line too

I found a very easy way to solve it years back. You will need to do it a couple times a year but it's no big deal. Go raid the wife's laundry stuff and find some fabric softener. Take a spray bottle and fill it about 10 to 1 softener and water shake very well. Clean the seat as clean as you can and then vacuum. Once your ready mist the mixture of water and fabric softener all over the seat and seat back. Allow to completely dry before getting in the truck. That's it, works great but you will need to retreat a couple times a year.

I wouldn't worry about static and diesel as the flash point is so much higher. Granted there are "gas" pumps in the vicinity, but if you aren't pumping it shpouldn't be a problem.

Probably more of an "ouch" factor.

I've had the static problem on every truck since '99. I remember one time I got out to unlock the garage door and drew a nice, blue arc about an inch long with the key to the lock. Pretty sweet. Another time I was filling at a gas station with my 6.0L and got an arc on the gas filler door. Not so sweet.

I have an 02 and I did not have this problem until this year, kinda wierd. I have cloth seats as well. My wifes 00 Grand Am however is another story, it will restart your heart for ya in the winter.
