My mpg have been shit since the lite came on..Idk seems pretty steep for the fix..I am getting 15.8 mpg with stock tires??? Any suggestions?? Thats total bullshit. I just had mine replaced under warranty at 30k miles. Find a different dealer.

Times 2 Large..!! and agreed with 453.

To block and finger is likely one of the best things to do to these motors...in my humble opinion mind you but I've had mine blocked/fingered for over 100,000km - no issues particularly: dirty intake, soot entrained into the motor, egr valve sticking etc.

longetivity will be enhanced.

That is total bull shitzki. It is covered under warranty. 06 engine is 100k, and emissions is too! make them fix it and then block it. It will crap out again. Mine took a dump at 26K and stupid tech told me it is common and it will do it again.

block and stick it or get a ppe tuner.

your egr motor WILL go bad again and you will pay for it again... don't waste your money.

emissions warranty runs out at 50k

don't know what the coverage code is for the motor though...

I thought the emissions warranty was 100K like the engine?

One more thing..Is that why i am getting such poor mpg's?

Unit is right. I had mine replaced at 19,842 miles, under warranty at the dealership. Service guy said if I had been out of warranty it would have been around 500 bucks to replace. Sure hope mine does not go bad after December 7th, cause my warranty will be history.

06LLY here as well, had the EGR solenoid (I think that is what you are referring to) on the valve go bad, they tried to fix it with some GM recommended procedure where they cycled the valve open/shut rapidly for over an hour to clean it off. Didn't work. They replaced it under warranty, I was at about 28k miles.

I will likely block/stick it after factory warranty.

pretty sure it is not. I could be wrong though.

Uhh, the EGR is technically for emissions, however it is part of the engine assembly which is covered by the 100k $100 ded warranty. Find another dealer and/or tell the current one to pound sand.

I haven't looked at my warranty booklet that came with the owner's manual in a while, but isn't the emissions warranty more along the lines of 80k?

My truck is now throwing P046C amd P0403. I have had my blocker plate and Finger stick since around 5K miles. I reset the codes and one of them still comes back on occasion. It dont matter if you have the blocker or not, if the valve sticks it will still throw a code. The only way to eliminate the codes from coming back is to buy a tuner with the ability to shut off the EGR circuit all together. The plate just keeps your engine cleaner. I have got to get the money together for EFI Live.

the 80k part of emissions is for the ecm if i remember correctly.

The emission part of the warranty is for any and all emission items-- including the Cat! IMHO:D

Tell them to give it to you in writing if they say it is not covered. They will roll over real fast! LOL

P046C is when the EGR motor doesn't respond as the ECM thinks it should. Bad EGR motor. Stick requires a functional EGR motor.

Thats what I was saying. I guess the valve (motor driven), just sticks sometimes on my LBZ. Doesn't your "stick" just fool the ecm into thinking you have a certain minimum exhaust recirculation flow when the blocker plate is installed? I realize the ecm is looking at commanded v/s actual egr valve position and when the ecm sees a pre-determined difference in the two thats when I am getting the codes.
By the way, if we could simply take the egr motor out of the sludge, mount it on the firewall or something, and make a block off plate where it was mounted that might let the egr motor last longer. Or I may be way off base because I have not actually studied the egr or piping and circuitry. I will soon.

The Stick modifies the MAF signal based on the EGR valve position.

What if GM just put a motor in there with much more torque. Enough so that when the soot build up tried to restrict the vavle movement, the increased torque of the motor would still allow it to function properly. Just a thought.

Soot is not the problem as far as I can tell. I think the electronics are failing from the heat.

We make diesel EGR's at work and it is actually a lacquer that builds up from the diesel soot that makes them stick. That is the reason GM added the egr cycling to the trucks when they are turned off.

A question though, if some tuners turn off the egr circuit why would one need a blocker and stick? If it turns off the circuit just unplug the egr to close the valve then it should be blocked. Am I correct or are these more then a solinoid driven butterfly or pintle style valve?

DieselPower06,

I had the same problem. Like Fingers said, the plate/finger stick will not fix the problem if the EGR motor and valve are not working properly. So I took my truck in with 36,300 miles on and after several EGR cleanings the dealer ended up replacing my EGR valve motor, no codes or lights since! It was and is under warranty! Hope this helps I did take the plate back out though, whenever I took it back in for the warranty work. The fingerstick was such a neat job I figured they would not catch it, and they didn't thank goodness!
