I am looking at a New reman 6.5 TD long block for 3300 and 1 year unlimited mile warrenty. Two options offered here are:

Upgrade option to a 141 casting with piston oil squirters for better cooling is $150.00 extra

Upgrade option to a 99-02 is $300.00 exta

do you think it is worth the money to get both of these options? I have heard bad things about oil squirters but I think that is just in the 97-99 blocks. Anyone out there got some info on this or an opinion?

Who are you talking to on this motor, as I am in the same boat.

And what is new reman? Either its new, or a reman, right?

Thanks!
Tim

If you get the latest block with the oil squirters I would say that it is even better than the 92-93 blocks. The oil piston cooler will allow you to make a little more power and the later engines had less compression than the older engines, plus they have about all the bugs worked out, 99-00 is ok, 01 to 02 is better. I don't know if you are still looking to drop it to 18:1 though.

I have heard of a few rare cases of something in the oil squirting system failing and causing big damage, but it is very rare and most of the modern diesel, like the D-Max, use the piston oil squirters. And I have seen one 2000 engine still fail to a cracked block by the #8 hole, but this is rare on the latest blocks as well.

141 blocks don't have the oil piston coolers, they are the 96 vintage blocks with the 1/2" oil cooler lines verses the 5/8" used in the 97 "506" and up blocks which DO have the oil spray nozzles.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

This is another good example of someone who knows little or nothing about the products that they sell. Chevydiesel has it right.

When shopping 6.5 engines remember you get what you pay for...

This is why I asked u guys questions. I have no trust in what I read. I am very weary of what I look at without conferance with you guys. I am just gonna opt for the newer block.
