I read on here somewhere that guys are forwarding their cells to thier onstar, how is it working? and i would assume that you would be using minutes from both your cell and the onstar. also i was wondering about service, if you can't get phone signal will you get onstar signal (satilites) or does it tap into a cell tower as well??

Well the cellular portion of onstar using regular cell sites.
What you do is put your cell phone n call forward, it's usually pretty easy. Go through the setup in your phone, when you see call forwarding activate it and put in your truck's number.
It does use your onstar minutes once you answer. I don't know about your personal phone's minutes though.

On-star doesn't use satilites, they just use cell towers. I think that it is Verizon service that it uses. I remeber reading about it when I bought the truck, and it didn't seem like it was a good idea cost wise. You had to have a two line service with the cell company. It is too bad that they didn't open it up to use bluetooth with you cell phone.

I WANTED BLUETOOTH SO BAD! I guess there's something that 'parrot' makes that'll make it work witih bluetooth and the onstar equipment. I never had the guts to try it though. LOL

OnStar has no caller ID, so that sucks.

hmm I was told that my Onstar was bluetooth capable. I will check my documentation and see. Onstar does use Verizon and you can link it to an existing Verizon account for minutes. If you don't use it much then Onstar runs specials on minutes and they last for a year and if you purchase more before the year is out you can roll unused minutes over to the next year. My truck phone will work in some places my regular Verizon cell phone won't due to a higher wattage. The only thing i don't like about the truck phone is you can't answer it with the steering wheel control AND the lady programmed in is from Nyaw Yaork and doesn't understand Southern but she is getting better..

THis is what i want, i don't need to use it as my phone if it will cost more but it would be nice to use the speaker and the mic that onstar uses to have just the bluetooth capabilities.

I thought I read in a post that some company was making some type of conversion thing that would allow your OnStar mics and speackers to use a bluebtooth, but I bet you would lose the OnStar features. I think that the whole bluetooth speaker thing is overrated. My old man has a new Lincoln, at it fully controls all the phone options, but I don't like taking calls on speaker phone unless I'm alone in the truck. I have both a Motorola speaker and headset bluetooth devices in my truck (both recharable, not wired), and I tend to use the headset more often then the speaker.
