Does anybody know why I cannot build and price an 08 or 09 GMC or Chevy van with a Dmax? The website only offers a 5.3 and 6.0??? I need a 3500 passenger van with tow package.

The Passenger van is not offered with the Dmax.

I don't know why but it isn't.

The cargo is available with the diesel.....

I just checked the GM website and you can't built it.......weird.

I did check the program that we use to order them with and it is available that way.

Worse than not being able to 'build' a van with a duramax on GM's site is the fact that the Allison is not available with this cargo van option. And get this....they detune the Duramax to put out a measly 250 hp probably so as not to tear up the Hydromatic tranny. I'd love to find out why. I'm guessing the physical size of the Allison complicates the van's assembly. Too bad. It's pretty hard to shell out that kind of money for a 'detuned' engine.

The detuned Duramax can easily handle the max GCVWR, so I imagine GM doesn't want to bother with trying to fit the Allison in there. If it could accomodate larger loads affiliated with 5th wheel trailers, then you'd see more horsepower and torque.

The number 1 reason for the detune is due to overheating. The is no natural air flow to help with cooling like in a truck. Currently there is no room for a Allison and would require a major redesign to make it fit. The 4L85E is a very good trans, I have been running a 50 horse tune for a about 30,000 miles with zero problems.

Might go buy a long wheel base cargo Dmax and get the seats from a local wrecker myself....

I spent a whole $25,000 for my van with a Dmax. I am guessing a truck would have been well over $30k.

They may be "detuned" but the my brothers 06 LLY van will easily beat my friends 03 LB7 duramax truck stock to stock.
