I tried searching this but got nothing. I just got a final notice for GM recall # 2007293 on my 2006 LBZ ext cab duramax. But cant find any info on what it is or was? The only recall I was aware of was the glow plugs and that was done 2 years ago.

Any help on this would be great, its a Canadian truck, if it matters.

I got a call yesterday on this, set up the appointment and asked what it was for here is what I got............TRANS OVERHEAT IN EXTREME COLD AIR TEMPS-REPROGRAM TCM. Service guy at the stealership told me that during long periods of shutdown time ie. overnight, with temps below -40 degrees F. That on intial start up that very little to no trans fluid may flow through the cooler causing extreme overheat.

where in the world... do you get -40°C / -40°F (i beleive at 40 degrees below, centigrade(celcius) and farenheit are the same)

only at 40* are they the same. +/- any amount and they are different. Guess I am not going to have to worry about this anyway here in Atlanta GA...lol

ahhh well last year I worked in -35 to -50 for months, night shift on oil rigs north of fort mac alberta. So we deffinetly see those temps. But I think this was only a problem with high idle and idleing long periods. Not to sure though? how would a tcm re-program change the oil from getting too thick to flow? LOL I will just switch to Transndyn or whatever, It stays thiner to lower temps.

I had the reprogram done for the tranny thing as I figured it's not going to cost me anything and if there are any tranny problems later GM can't point fingers for not having it done. I noticed no difference in driveability or change in operation of the high idle function when cold. I can't comment on the -40 operation as the truck hasn't seen temps that low yet.

Yup -45 got the best of my tranny last winter in Ft. Saskachewan AB. High idle locks the torque converter or 2 gears or something cant fully remember, helps the truck warm up faster though by putting load on the motor. Started my truck let it warm up for 15-20min drove for 5 minutes then parked and left it idling for about 20 more minutes and when i came back burnt to hell tranny fluid all over the snow under the truck, temp gauge was maxxed out. TC was apparently melted, shitty factory alli fluid starts solidifing in cold weather and thats part of the problem. Truck went into the shop and they tried saying i was running with no fluid, wanted to stiff me on my warranty. Long story short 2 months later I didnt notice any difference after the reflash (and new tranny)

IIRC from last winter on that recall/reprogram, what it does is changes how the elevated idle feature works. It only lets it lock in the tranny for short periods of time while the idle is elevated, instead of keeping it constantly locked in until the idle kicks back down. In that way it slowly and more safely warms up the fluid and pushes it through the cooler without melting the TC. There should be a few old posts on here from last winter. Mainly occured in canada because it had to get around -40F or so for that to be a problem.
