When looking at used Duramax trucks... everything being equal, what do you think the chances are that a truck has had some kind of programming modifications?
Reason I ask is... I started reading this forum after I bought an '02, and it never occured to me that it might have been on steroids. I wonder what the chances are that it has been.
The irony.... is that I am getting the itch to put a little something extra in.
Is this forum a small population of Duramax users, or do most D/A buyers start fooling around. By the way... I started researching diesel trucks after I needed something to tow... I had no idea that these things could be modified to go so dang fast.

50/50 I'd say. It's hard to say. About 50% of the diesel owners I know are chipped. That is what I am basing it off of.

If it has a bung in the exhaust ....you're in luck. That would tell ya that it was chipped yet cared for at the same time. ......If the trans is limping, you might just have a "has been" that wasn't. However, you just might have a regular diesel that's been OEM it's whole life.

imo, around my area i bet its 75-25%. its just so cheap to have more power. infact it just maybe higher than 75???? i know of one red ex. cab than was really really hurting when it went down the road. i cant believe he was still able to move it

I agree with moss. It's so easy and cheap to add a little extra power to these things that nearly everyone around my area has something. It's funny to watch the windows of the trucks because so many of them have the Attitude mounted in the stock Attitude location. And since the Edge box gives extra power with all the safeguards it's just almost a no brainer.

Might try asking the previous owner. He might be honest and tell you.

dunno who it is. it was a trade in. everything about the truck seems to be mild though. i 'passed' on several trucks that seemed to have been much more suspicious.

Along with the exhaust probe, check the wires at the PCM connectors, sometimes those are tapped into. Check the firewall near the master cylinder for extra holes or extra holes in existing gromets. Check the wiring under the dash for signs of tampering. Scotch Locks will leave a slice in the insulation when they are removed.
