Probably :D

Have you guys priced tires lately?

Here's the deal

I knew I needed tires this summer as my backs are wearing thin do to Steve Cole and his friggen program.I can't rotate often enough to keep up with disappearing rubber.

My steer tires were good but with rolled corners,no biggie they'll flatten once out back.Inside rears as always on a dually are thin, outside,eh,OK.

I thought I'd buy four and save two steer tires for inside back ,fresh ones up front and two new outside back, good plan.

Well if some SOB didn't let a piece of shrapnel lie on the highway ramp in the shadows for me to hit today. You guessed it front left steer tire was wrecked.

Called the local Michelin dealer I used previously and he had two 235/85 16's ribbed in stock. The price has doubled since I bought two years ago.WTF?I payed $100 bucks spun and mounted and paid $190 today, holy ****!
What sucks is now I have to buy four more for the rear. That's $1200 bucks to re-rubber my truck!!!! He didn't have the 4 but will tomorrow.

The only high light of this was when I rolled into the parking lot I spun her pretty good.Funny how people jump to attention! Talked with the tire guy some and he said that my entrance was his high light of the day and to top it off he'd like it if I'd give him a smoke show,I obliged.Did I ever.

I smoked it thru three gears, rolled out through four and five, cloud was big enough so as when I circled around to get on the interstage some two miles away looking back the cloud was still present!

Be picking up the other four Friday, wonder what he'll have to say! :D

Perhaps the smoke show was enough for him to discount the other 4 :)

What he really wants to see is a smoke show after he puts on the back 4.:grd:

Hey Mack I would go with the Michelins up front, and a long wearing highway tire in the back(unless you're in 4wd then they have to match).

I often find that by the time I pay for the shipping on a 50 lb. tire, and then pay for the mounting and balancing, I can often do almost as well by going to the local guy and buying from him, because his price includes mounting and balancing.

And if you are really cheap....err....I mean, "thrifty", you can go over to sales tax free New Hampshire.

But with the price of fuel these days, going extra miles for savings often makes no sense....unless you had another reason to be there.

Mack, I'd love to see that receipt for XPS ribs for $100 a tire. mt. & bal.

I was putting em' on my dodge about 5 years ago and with michelin national fleet pricing through a source of mine they were still $140 a tire

$100 ? maybe fell off a truck...

michelin national fleet pricing ...I didn't think it got any cheaper than that...

Bought mine through Power Purchasing a company that has a fleet of trucks about 5000 strong... (Most all 18 wheeler tank trucks)there buying power is tremendous with Michelin...

If you like settin' 'em on fire, I'd do it with something more disposable than the XPS! They are top of the line.

I hear ya but thats the tire of my choice to run on my Max :o:

Excellent tire ,I highly recommend.Wear is great IF you don't burn them up.My steer tires with nearly 30K had plenty ,I mean plenty of thread left prior to the blow out.Surely I didn't need to replace which pisses me off

I really like these commercial rib tires. I have a set of Cooper C120s on my '91. Pulled my 5ver to Alaska and back, then to Nova Scotia, PEI, and they have some wear, but look great. Too bad Cooper discontinued them. I had the Goodyear G159s on my '00 that I traded for the Dmax, they had 67K on them and weren't half worn out. Also discontinued. Bridgestone makes one that I would like to try, called the R250. It's the only steel sidewall rib that I know of available in a 265. The XPS is only 235 and 245, and the new Goodyear G647 is the same. When I got the Coopers, I got them for $110 each, which the dealer said was his cost because they were going away. I got 8 of them, still have two unmounted in the garage. I would like to have your old XPSs, they are really good to retread.

I am sold on these tires ,did I mention they are a quiet hwy tire too for people who travel long distances such as yourself ? I'm sure you know ,that was for the other readers.

I wont throw the four off the back away, when they come off. You make the arrangements and there yours! They are a HEAVY tire to ship, but let me know if it's worth it .

I would love to have them, but business never takes me near Connecticut and they would cost a load to ship. XPS weighs 13 lbs more than the same size fabric sidewall tire. Alot of people have never heard of them, but you see tons of them on UPS, FedEx, and other commercial rigs.
