The LB7's supposedly sound like straight piped muscle cars when you do that. I guess they are LOUD, never heard one myself but that's what I've read on the forum.

Not real loud.....I guess everything is subjective. Also depends on how many HP your truck is making. The more balls the louder it is. An LB7 does kinda have a gasserish sound to it. Probably louder than a 4" exhaust. Do it IMO, if you dont like it then get a real exhaust system or have a different muffler put in its place.

I have an 04' LB7 straight piped, it is somewhat loud... very loud if I am flooring it though. To compare sounds, I know someone with a mid 90's Dodge Cummins with a 4" exhaust with muffler on it... my truck's exhaust is definitely louder than his.

They are a lot louder than my MBRP 4". Later! Frank

Compared to the old style diesels a straight pipe duramax has an aggressive sound, but it is very tolerable.

It sounds good, it is a tad bit loud if you're on the 'go' peddle too hard. My buddy has his straight piped - I love the sound.

I had my 02 straight piped for a long time, and the drone at 70 mph finally drove me insane and I put a muffler on thats free flowing. I personally thought the straight pipe and stock exhaust sounded more like a howl than a growl. I like the sound of the big free flow muffler I got lots better. Four inch might help the howling sound though...just my two cents, everyone has there own preference! Straight pipe could turn some heads outside though!

The sound is real throaty http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif, mine is fantastic. I always find myself driving with the passenger window half-way down in to listen to the turbo whistle when you let off. Also to hear it rap when you get on it http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif.
Did mine and never looked back...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/grd.gif

thank for the replys guys i was just makin sure i wasnt making a mistake and it sounds likle most of u who have done it like it so i will go ahead with it. and if i dont like it thats ok because i have a muffler shop that will weld on the stock muffler. and the only reason i straight piping the stock system is because i dont have the $$$$ to buy a 4 inch system
