observation #1: it appears the 285s have hurt my mileage by approx .5 mpg. before the tires, i was averaging 13.3-13.5 city mileage. the last couple tanks have been just under 13 mpg.
observation #2: for those claiming extremely low mileage numbers, what size tires are you running? after upgrading to 285s, my speedometer/odometer is slower than reality. i filled up this morning and put 21.5 gallons in with the trip odometer reading 256 miles. this would equal out to 11.9 mpg. adjust the mileage by 7% (difference between stock 245s and 285s) and 274 miles gives me 12.7 mpg. dont forget or underestimate this difference.
observation #3: i can definitely tell a difference with the 285s compared to the stock 245 firestones. i still have plenty of power and acceleration, but i used to be able to light up the 245s if i so pleased. ive tried it a couple times with the 285s just out of curiosity and the truck just takes off, no spinning. this is actually a good thing IMO though. sure its fun to smoke em every once in a while, but now i dont prematurely wear the tires and if i want to take a rice burner off the line, i dont have to worry about spinning. i have 285 mud grips and they are much bigger and heavier to turn over than those wimpy little 245 street radials.
just FYI for anyone that cares...
oh yea, as a side note, today is a very sad day. when i filled up this morning, it was the first time in my life i paid over $2 a gallon for gas! even last year when prices were high, the stations around here (at least some) managed to keep it at 1.99 or lower. this morning, it was 2.01 as my local gate station. -:t
