: USA Spec with iPod doesn't work?

I'm not having much luck installing an iPod interface to my factory system, so I need some recommendations.

I recently ordered a USA Spec PA11-GM, but when I opened the box, I found 3 warning notices inside. One says the Hybrid mode doesn't work with the 3g iPhone and iTouch (ipod touch) models. The second says it won't charge the iPhone or iTouch, and the third indicates I might need to buy an extension cable. So basically I bought a $140 direct connection instead of a $30 model.

I called the company and they want to charge me $20 for a new cable to charge the iPhone/iPod, but Hybrid mode still won't work. They tell me they're going to jack the price up to $160 anyway when they get the new cables, so they're not going to swap out the existing cable for me. Basically useless. So I'm getting a full refund from the place I bought it on Monday.

I've heard about the Peripherals product, but there too many complaints about it when I do the research. The only other option is take the $$ and buy a replacement unit entirely, but I'd rather not spend the money right now.

Has anybody simply hooked up a simple $30 auxillary input device for $30 with any success?

i just did some looking around and the only thing i could find in the $30 range were fm transmitters. PAC Audio has a couple of hard wired options that won't charge the i phone 3g or i touch. if you dont have or dont use xm you open up some other options but you are looking at the same price range as the peripheral and usa spec. Here is a link to PAC's website take a look see if you find something that will work for you.
