I know this has prob. been covered before but I searched and couldn't find anything. GM replaced my IP a week or so ago and I would like to put the PMD on a cooler since it is new. Can the PMD be taken off the pump without removing the intake manifold?

Thanks,
Dan

Pull the upper plenum, shorten a 90deg Torx wrench, get a 1/4" drive Torx bit and a 1/4" box-open ignition wrench, and it can be done - if you're agile and ambi-dexterous.

I prefer to pop the intake manifold off, and the '97 upgrade requires removing the dual t-stat manfold.

When I did mine I cut a torx bit down and welded it to a piece of strap and used it, and I rotated the pump, but I don't think it have worked without removing the intake. ;)

I can only imagine the amount of French you'd speak and the tools you'd throw while doing it. ;)

ps the intake isn't bad to remove reinstalling it can be more of a pain but not bad.

The OEM screws will have buried themselves in the plastic of the PMD body. Be sure to try to "dress" the raised parts where it rose up as this will compress and lose clamping force in short time.

It's really not that bad of a deal pulling the intake. Mine is off for the third time right now. I use a small cardboard box, and stick the bolts through the cardboard in the order they came off the engine. This helps get the right bolt/stud back in the right hole.

Also, there are some bolts at the front of the engine that look for all the world like intake bolts. They are for the cooling plenum and dont have to come out to pull the manifold.

Besides, when you pull the intake off, now you can get to all the bolts, screws, nuts, sockets, and small kittens that you have dropped into the engine valley over the years!):h

I pulled the upper and lower intake when I remote mounted my FSD, made life alot easier. used a torks bit clamped into a small pair of needle nose visegrips to remove lower bolt tedious but effective.
