I was more than a little dismayed when I opened this months issue of Diesel Power magazine the other day. Last month the promised a 300HP 6.5L. The did not deliver...... Instead we get the complete and boring history of the Ford 6.9L-7.3L IDI engine. Yawn :(. This is not the first time this has happened either. I once sent an e-mail to the editor of DP for this same reason.

So here is what I purpose........

As many of us, obviously under represented 6.5L guys, send our pics, stats and exprese our disapointment to Diesel Power and see what kind of response we can get. I'm looking to bombard their e-mail box. We need to let them know that the 6.5L is alive and well and has a huge following.

If any of you know guys who are working for any of the 6.5L parts suppliers (ie. Heath or SS diesel supply) see if the want to get the companies involved.

I'm hoping to get a lot of response out of this. I want to see one of our trucks grace the pages of Diesel Power.

I've bought DP several times. It seems to be for the d-bucks,powerjoke and cummins guys with unlimited bugets. It seemed to be 3/4 advertisements. A waste of $6.00 to me. To me a mag more like car craft for diesels would be more appealing. Junkyard parts, diy,q&a,budget builds, ect. I choose to not buy DP again. Us 6.5ers isn't where the big bucks are.

I read DP for the advertisements

They write their magazine like everyone makes $400,000 a year

Even if I made $400,000 a year I would still prefer my "old" 6.5. As a matter of fact I have a real nice F-150 4x4 with a manual trans Lariat pkg. and a power chip. I still drive the Chevy most of the time because I like it. :):D

This is not a biased opinion at all, I know Pstrokes,Cummins and DMaxs are all awesome engines and they can all smoke me in a drag race. But I think our trucks sound the best.

When I got the 6.5 the thing I liked about it most was the sound. I look forward to starting my truck up every single time. Now that I got my smoke stack in I feel like a 7 year old boy with a new toy every single time I drive it :)

I've been watching smoke stack vids on youtube and I dont think any of these other diesel trucks sound better then my truck or Iamdaves. Our exhaust just doesnt have that popping/raspy sound that I hear a lot on the other trucks, again I'm not being biased because I know the other diesel engines are great they just dont sound as good as the 6.5 :D

agreed. i know a few cummins guys that rag on the 6.5 and say "its an easy target". i say if its good enough for the military to use its good enough for me too. and nothing sounds like a 6.5, except maybe a turbo 6.2. :D had someone ask me if i had a cummins under my hood a few weeks ago as he said "it sounds like a cummins" and was quite interested about how i got it to sound that way. when i todl him its nothing more than an open exhaust he smiled and said "looks like i've found what i'm doing to mine next". :D

Diesel Power has some good stuff in it, but its mostly for newer (and more expensive) diesels. I prefer Maxxtorque, "The magazine of the GM diesel commmunity- 6.2/6.5/DMAX"

If I was still a young whipper snapper, and somebody told me my 6.5 sounded like a cummins,.....I'd dot their eyes! :D

A friend of a friend just bought a cummins powered dodge, slightly lowered, 3/4 ton street truck - it has open exhaust, and I'm here to tell ya it's sounds awful!

I noticed one time when I was leaving he was 'listening' to my truck when I drove off, so I drove her nice and easy, wound her up to about 2200 rpms, then shifted slow so he could hear the full spool up and down - makes a nice whistle that way. The next time I saw him he was running up to the store and kinda got on it a little when he left. When he came back he asked me did it sound like my truck........I was offended! I told him absolutely not! I didn't have the heart to tell him it was one of the worst sounding open exhaust , turbo diesels I've ever heard.

Yeah Im surprised how many of the Cummins on youtube have that poppy rasp when they rev. There are some that sound good but a lot of guys running aftermarket or modified exhausts sound horrible.

I do a lot of in town driving. I like the fact that the truck is very quiet for a diesel at low RPM. But get it up to to about 2000 and everyone looking around confused for the Semi that must have come from nowhere.

its even funnier when your driving a 2 door yukon with the 6.5L and it belches out some black smoke :D.
