: Greetings, new LMM owner mpg question
Greetings to all, I am thankful a forum like this exists. I am new to diesels and have learned alot surfing this web site. Thanks...
I bought a new 2500 4X4 silverado crew cab, regular bed. I absolutely love the way it handles and drives.
Like most of the readers on this forum MPG is important to me. I have just about 200 miles on the truck. It is competely stock. I currently drive 50/50 city/hwy. I am a conserative driver when it comes to the gas pedal.
I am averaging about 12.4 mpg. Is it too early to tell? Will my mpg's increase the more mileage I put on the truck?
Thanks for reading...
usafracer 10-16-2008, 12:40 AM They will get better. I was up to 15.5 at just over 500 miles with mixed city and hi-way
street3285 10-16-2008, 01:13 AM Mine has 1700 miles and I get 14 MPG mixed HWY/CITY (Mostly City), and 20 HWY.
Did u get that type of mileage from day one or did they slowly start increasing with the more miles u put on ur truck?
street3285 10-16-2008, 01:38 AM Day one....... I just drove on a 1000 mile trip so that is the first time I got the HWY numbers.
well I went on a 45 mile trip to dinner last and before I left I reset the average economy reading. The drive to dinner was all freeway, traveling at about 60-70mpg. I was happy to see that I was getting an average of 19.5 mpg.
usafracer 10-18-2008, 01:46 PM wait till you hit a regen then you will see it drop like a rock
nextlevel38 10-19-2008, 06:46 PM The nore mile the better you mpg will be... dump the dpf and you will se even better results.
armylifer 10-21-2008, 03:36 PM I find that my highway milage is much better than mixed driving. However, I also found that my city milage was worse when I tried taking off slowly rather than normally. When I tried to keep my RPMs below 2000 in the city, as others have suggested, I got around 1 MPG less than when I just started off from stop lights normally. I have just over 20,000 miles on it and I get about 19 MPG highway and about 15 MPG mixed driving. All MPG figures are hand calculated because the DIC does not indicate accurate MPG figures.

dylanaire 10-21-2008, 10:17 PM my 08 has just over 1000 miles and im getting 17mpg highway and 14 city... but it seems to be increasing as i put more miles on it
grandpa67 10-21-2008, 10:37 PM With just over 7K on the truck I'm getting between 17 and 19 driving rural roads but then I drive like my Avatar reads!
Pulling a loaded flatbed trailer (10K to 11K) on those same roads I get 13 -14. Mine got about 2 -4 mpg better mileage once I hit 6K. You might try resetting the DIC. Sometimes mine would seem to stay at a lower MPG for a long time until I reset it. I've checked the DIC by hand calculations about 5 times now and it's pretty accurate.
just got back from a weekend at Las Vegas. About 270 miles each way. I averaged 20.5 mpg traveling about 70mph accelerating occassionally to pass big rigs. There were several uphill climbs to about 4000ft.
I have about 1250 miles on my truck. I am satisfied with these results.
Westwind 10-30-2008, 09:16 PM I'm averaging 15 around town and 17 if my highway
driving is more than City. My 08 GMC D/A has about
10,100 on it and will be a year old the first week of
2/09. I have gotten 20 MPG on the one long highway
trip I have taken in it. Love driving it, it could have
better fit and finish. Seats are comfortable, hate the
fabric. Wish the plastic inside and out didn't look so
cheap.
Oldforestor 11-08-2008, 07:40 AM Im getting 17.5 to 18, mostly "country driving".
lots of 45-55mph roads.
Coming off the 6.0 getting 11-13 Im thrilled.
astralepic 11-08-2008, 08:50 AM I've got 7500 miles on mine and it's getting better. I started somewhere around 15 and am now upwards of 16.5 - 17 in the city. Highway does good at about 19.5-20 until the damn regen. When is GM going to release an update to lessen the regen cycles? Good luck with your new truck. You're going to love it as it breaks in more.
GeneralC 11-08-2008, 10:34 AM I just hit 25,000 and my mileage has went way up since it was new. When it was new i averaged about 14 combined. Now i average about 16 mixed. All highway i get around twenty sometimes more sometimes a little less.
mbuckey 11-09-2008, 07:44 AM Around here theres a few stops and a lot of speed zones. My truck gets anywhere from 19.4 mpg around here hand calculated, and have gotten 21.5-27.3 on long highway trips. What kills the avg is taking off.
JIMMMY 11-09-2008, 10:10 AM
27.3 MPG !?
U must have the prius option under the hood......
:D
sammy08sierra 11-09-2008, 10:57 AM When New I Was Getting Around 15, At About 10k Now And Averaging 18 Or So And Have Gotten As Good As 21
