Question? I have a '99 2500 w/ 95K which has been blowning quite a bit more white smoke at start up that usual. Typ. it blows a little and then clears out, but over the past 2 days it has gotten much worse. Some vehicle background, it has a rebuilt turbo (3 months old), a new PMD, and just changed the fuel filter. Any ideas what might be causing it would be appreciated? Thanks.

Are you loosing any antifreeze, overheating, using oil? If no, then Glowplugs would be the best place to start...injectors are getting close to being due if they're original. Probably the easiest thing to check would be CTIME inside the pump, go to data display on a scanner and see what it reads when you first start it up, CTIMES too long (>2ms) could be the culprit.
Head gaskets, look for foam in oil or floaties in coolant. The smell of the smoke will tell you if its anti-freeze or something else.

If you have a bad head gasket, will it blow white smoke all the time, or just when it is trying to start in the morning, cause mine blows quit a bit out in the morning for the first start. But it doesn't take very long for the smoke to stop.
