I found a guy selling the 18 inch 5 spoke chrome wheels from a dodge. I always like these better than the GM wheels, plus I think they are a little wider so they will hold my 285s better. My question is will my GMC center caps go back on with these new wheels.

They are 17" indeed. I have 2 pictures in my garage with those wheels installed if interested.

So the dodge wheels tuck further into the wheel well or they stick out more??? Backspacing and offset confuse me a bit.

So, according to the link, with 285s they rub the tortion bars? On these wheels would the tires be sucked more into the wheel wells? I want the outside of the wheels to be either even with the outside of the truck or slightly wider.

These wheels have MORE backspacing meaning they will sit further under the truck....they WILL NOT even come close to being even with the fender. Usuall interference is between the tire side wall and the sway bar as well as the upper A-arm when turning sharp. The wider the tire the worse the problem.

Texas,

You need a wheel setup more like the H2's, with a 285 they sit flush with the wheel well and won't rub the suspension bits. Check out my garage.

Backspacing is the distance from the mounting face to the back of the rim. Offset is the distance from the mounting face to the center line of the wheel. Two different ways of measuring the same thing. Dodge wheels have ~6" of backspacing while the hummer's are closer to 5.5".......

I disagree, mine look fine with the fenderwells, at least look better than the stock PYOs do.

I didn't say they looked bad....they just don't stick out even with the fenders like the original poster said he wanted them to. I personnally like a tucked wheel and tire combo, but to get the bigger tires to fit you can't tuck them in as far as the Dodge wheels are.

The Dodge Wheels are 6.2" of backspacing by 8" wide. They sit flush w/ the Dodge fender well (or just a tad out). Most Dodge guys will get the H2 wheels and bore the centers out and use them on thier Dodge trucks. They are 5.5" of BS and stick out about an inch farther than the Dodge stockers.

So, I imagine it would be a very tight fit w/ the Dodge stockers on a GM truck w/ the BS.

Keep in mind that the H2's are 8.5" wide so they would stick out 1.2" further than the dodge wheels would....which is why I said dodge wheels would not be flush with the fender wells like the H2's are.

He said they rub the sway bar at full lock, barley. Not the t-bars.

Widest tire you can run is a 285 70 17. Just rubs sway bar and UCA, no big deal. I think they are great because they tuck in and keep the side of the truck cleaner. As long as you don't want to go wider than a 285...
