Hey Is any one out there running the dual whip type antennae mounted to the front of the bed just behind the cab? Just curious what make you chose and how you mounted them. Just doing it for looks and not functional yet anyway maybe get a CB for hunting season.

mine are "DIESEL" brand ,but don't ask me where you can buy them though. I bought mine at a truck stop. they're actually pretty good just be sure whatever brand you buy, put a spring at the base of them. the reason being with the wind pushing the antenna back and forth, it seems to come unscrewed. you can't tighten them enough without stripping the threads. As for how to mount them, mine are screwed to my back rack using the brackets that come withe the package (2 antennas, brackets, split coax) I'll try to get some pics of my truck and also my cb install aswell.:)

Dual Firestik's, one CB one scanner. Ball mount from Radio shack,
soon to change that though. Work fine...

I don't use Dual whips. But I do use several other antenna. You could use a "Stake Hole" mount. Firestick has them on their web site.

Thanks Y'all that was just what I was looking for. I'll try firestick for the stakehole mounting and look at adding a spring to make sure they dont loosen over time
Cheers All

I've gotten away from my CB and Amateur radio days when I could quote you chapter/verse on anteenae and their mounting, but I can tell you that twin antennae mounted less than a quarter wave apart are ineffective in any gain effect and mat even result in pattern distortion that could even reduce your output in some directions.
Big trucks are wider, and they have West Coast mirrors, so a mirror mount for each antenna results in a spacing wider by far than what you are planning with stake hole mounts.
IIRC, a quarter wave @ 27 MHZ is approx. 8'6".:ro)

Thanks for the heads up D.O.M. but 2 will be for looks and if I do get a CB then I will just have one wired up. I just like the look of the two antennae evening up the look.
Thanks again

Exactly why I no longer run true dual antennae. I swapped out the passenger side for a firestik scanner antenna. Right now my POS ball mounts aren't cooperating with me so the scanner antenna is parallel to the body to the rear, but still recieves fine. Probably will just look into low profile antenna humps once I get the lumber rack for the truck, since it's for recieve only.

I am running the front and rears of two seperate Eclipse amps and they are just too bright for me. I have compnoents in the front and co-axials in the rear. I may have to look at the settings on the crossover but they have nice bass responce but too much tweeter. I am going to have to invest in a subwoofer for behind the seat to help balance it out.
What sub box are you using?
