Okay I have a 2006 silverado rcsb 4x4 with a 4.8 and 3.42 gears. I plan on to start towing with it cause I cant trade it in right now. I have a cold air intake and a tune on it. The plan is a body lift and 33 inch tires but before I start towing with it alot mostly my ol 4x4s,my race car im building and some little equitment Iam going to add a heavyduty transmission cooler and a trans temp gauge is there any other things you guys would reccomend doing to it since its a little motor and to save the transmission, also what do you think the new style camper mirrors would look like on it.

I recommend you do not add 33" tires! You already have the worst gears possible, and the small V8,which is going to work hard towing in a 4x4. Ideally you should have 4.10 gears at the minimum for 33" tires and a small V8 towing. The tires are going to sap the power right out of the 4800,making the truck sluggish and work harder.Stay with a 30-31" tire maximum, unless you plan to regear,or not tow.

I would regear regardless if you want any power outta that. Add the cooler for sure. Maybe add a shift kit for less slippage. Use ur programmer to change shift points and add little more power. Take it easy on her and you should be ok till you get it traded up. Good Luck.

AX the big tire idea for sure. Even with 4.10s, you should not put those tires on there with that engine when you are trying to pull a car. The gear you currently have is an MPG gear and not a pulling gear. I would change to at least 4.10s or 4.56's(with big tires) if you want to pull with that engine. You will still have reasonable rpms with those gears. Obviously, it will turn a good bit more than it does now, but that is what you want for effective towing, and keeping the trans for burning itself up.

If you are dead set on bigger tires, then I would definately get the 4.56 gears.
A gear change will make the biggest impact on this truck for pulling purposes. I had one of these in a 2wd and it had 3.73's and it ran great empty. I never really pulled anything with it, so I don't know if it would have pulled much. I also had a 2005 4X4 with 4.10 gears and a 5.3 and it pulled great.

Actually I always run boggers on my truck so I was gonna run a 4.88 gear in it I dont care about it turning extra rpms. I got 5.14s in my chevelle even though it dont hit the street I never was afraid of puttin some gear in stuff

I have a set of the power extend mirrors if you're interested.

Sorry to say this, but a 4.8 and 3.42 is not a good combo. Doesn't do very well with mpg itself (a 5.3 gets better mileage usually), but you are going to have your foot to the floor over 2,000 lbs.

Tranny cooler definitely, expect to leave it in 3rd, not overdrive. Rest should be fine, but you'll hate every hill you meet. You need the 3rd gear ratio to avoid hunting with the O/D.

Try a 4.8 and 3.23 gears, that's what my son's NBS silvy has... strong little motor though, ran through the NC mountains very well, left it in 2nd. Best MPG was 22.6 hand calc.

make sure you buy tires rated for towing ..
