Help! I think I may have just went through my 2nd Torq Convertor from ATS! This one was in there for only 5 months!
Last night was the first time I've done a 10-12 psi launch since the second convertor and I did it twice with no problems. Then, about an hour later (and I was driving the vehicle the whole time) we stopped so a buddy could relieve himself and I thought I would give him a puff of smoke....stepped on the brake and gave it a little gas and it broke the tires loose (this is on a gravel road) just a little bit and then all of a sudden I had nothing. The truck would BARELY move itself in drive. Reverse works okay. Temperatures were never abobe 200 on the tranny until after I drove about 5 miles in reverse, then it was up to about 220-240 degrees.
4wd does not help at all. It seems to really be slipping when in drive.
It still hasnt flased a SES light at all though!?!
Any sugguestions? I'm going to give ATS a call when they open up this morning but thought maybe Mike L or someone could tell me what the hell I'm doing wrong to these things?
Also wanted to add that the copilot on or off makes no difference...and I have not had a chance to check fuses yet, the truck is still 15 miles away in town where she crapped on me...

Just an update...talked to Mike at ATS...he's thinking something in the clutch packs went bad. I have to go and see if it tries to move in neutral or not and go from there....

Sounds like you cooked the C1s.

You cooked C1's

I'd bet the farm on it.

Reverse is C3 and C5--hence ok

First is C1 and C5, no go-ey. C1 is also used in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

If you can get it rolling enough in 1st to shift to 2nd you should be able to get it home. Or at least I was able to.

I have no idea what you could be doing to the Ally. Unless, when you spun your tires on that dirt road and caught traction and stayed into the throttle. That right there can kill the C1s. When you spin your tires ( like in a bleach box) your TCM is commanding max pressure; then when you catch traction and stay in the throttle, TCM reads wheel speed ( input to output speed sensor ratio ) and of course your wheel speed will be much slower and TCM drops pressure and C1s are toast. Just a thought.

I think I've come to the same conclusion. If I let it idle in gear for about 2 seconds it will go 2 inches forward, I give it a little fuel and it goes backwards a few inches and stops. In neutral it will sort of move itself backwards a little bit with some throttle. I noticed a couple of days ago that after backing up (I usually slip the tranny into Neutral until it stops then brake and go into drive) it would keep on going backwards pretty good.
I almost wonder if this isnt a carryover situation from when the TC went bad on me 5 months ago. I know the tranny got pretty warm (just below red) when the TC went out. Could that have damaged the Clutck packs enough that when finally put under pressure months later they would go out?
Mike, isnt the TCM overridden when using the co-pilot for pressures?, ie doesnt it keep the line pressure up? And also Tow/Haul?
Thanks for the thoughts so far!

MaxPower, I think I'm going to leave it sit in town and I'll just back it onto our gooseneck trailer to get doctored up again.... It wont really budge itself to go ahead, and I cant convince the wifey or anyone else to push 7K lbs to get me going!
