: Gas Jumped....

Last night the St. Louis news reported unleaded fuel jumped some .10 to .15(1.89 to 2.15). So with diesel selling for .10 to .15 higher than regular, this could mean 2.30 for MO diesel and near 3.00 for our west coast friends?

The news is also reporting a truck drivers strike.....I have not heard of anything yet, but when I do I'll be sure to pass it along to Diesel Place.

This is BS! Diesel is refined a third less then regular unleaded gasoline and cost more!!! Grant it, there are more diesels on the road now then a few years back, maybe that's why big pig oil company's thinks they can price gouge us!
I hope the truckers do strike! You guys make your living over the road and with these prices it takes a big piece of your income, especially owner/operators.

This price hike is because of the Future Traders!!

Wait, I thought the price went up for winter heating demand in October? Spring it just a few days away......oh that is right.....summer is coming and more people will be driving to vacation!!

Big Business crAAp!!!

The bad part about all this is that the frieght rates have not gone up to correct for the fuel hike. The good thing is the busy season is coming and we already have a truck and driver shortage. If people want there crAAp moved then they should think about paying the price.

I guess we'll just have to see.....if not, there will be a brand new Volvo truck for sale before long.

This is a load of crap....And when i try to charge what I need to make a living people wanna try and talk you down....I try and tell them Diesel is goin up. But they still don't wanna pay the proper shipping charges. Its all a buncha BS. They can just come and move your boat themselves if they don't wanna pay.

Fuel is high but still, for most people, the cheapest part of driving. Depreciation, Maintnance and Insurance are the big costs. Our DMAX's cost 700 bucks a month just to look at if they are paid for. Double that if not. But everyone here is correct in saying that we are getting f'ed for the price of fuel. Not even a kiss or pat on the butt go along with it.

The Wall Street Journal had an artical that said if fuel prices were adjusted for inflation dating back to the 60's we should be paying $3.50/gal. It also said that back in the 80's was the time gas was the most expensive. Also adjusted for inflation. They state that China is going through their industrial revolution, like we did more than 100 years ago, so they are using more and more oil. Thus, driving the price up for everyone else. Simple supply and demand.
China is becoming a major player in the world. They are producing things that we do, but at a much lower cost. They have the world's largest dam, Three Gorges Dam. They are also building the world's largest Off Shore Deep Water Container Port. The have the busyest railroad Intermodal Container Yard in Hong Kong. This yard takes on more train cars than our Long Beach yard and the 4-5 yards in the city of Chicago. The Chinese built most of our railroads back in the late 1800's. They not exactly lazy people.
I sure as heck don't like paying $2.239/gal. but we can't stop the progress of other countrys. I stand behind the U.S.A. 500% but I'm not writing off China by any means. From all the things I've read about them in the Wall Street and other places, it doesn't look like they're going to slow down any time soon.

I guess we should all go back to school and learn to speak and write Chinese. The way our dollar is falling and the way our international relations are going we might not be the world leader for much longer.

This is a frightening thought.....and might be a reality.

I sure hope it won't come to that. I just heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that for every one person that gets a degree in engineering in the U.S., China as six.

Not good.

Last year I toured the Global III intermodal yard in Rochelle IL, the country's largest intermodal yard. The tour guide said that it is cheaper to have a container built in China and sent here than it is to ship one by rail from Rochelle to Portland Oregon. That's crazy. They also said that the containers used to move freight are used in China for housing.

I just find it funny that China and India is whats driving our fuel prices. Has this ever happened in the past? 40's 50's 60's &.....?

We have always been the country setting the standards. Now I am not so sure other countries do not need us any more.

It's a global economy now, like it or not. We are not the only people making stuff anymore. We MUST adapt to the changing times, and we will. What do you think the guys who made the horse drawn buggy were thinking when the automobile came out. They thought the their world was coming to an end. But it didn't. They adapted to the changing times and lived on. That's what we're going to do. The US will always be the super power. If we must adapt, we adapt.

"Give the American people a good cause, and there's nothing they can't lick" -John Wayne

The cause is clear, we must adapt to survive. We will.

Cheap labour in China won't last. Mexico was the same way. Cheap at first, but the people want a better life. More money..... Costs go up.

Things are gonna get wierd, down the road.... Just hope things don't get out of hand.

The hard part of coming into spring as a farmer is having to pay through the nose for fuel and not having the ability to increase comodity prices to reflect the increase in fuel prices. This sucks bigtime. This country needs to double output of biodiesel.:ro)

I hear you!!!! I'm in the logging industry and we don't have the ability to increase comodity prices either, the sawmills control the pricing and we "the contractors " get the shaft every time fuel jumps. We burn enough fuel that when it jumps 4-5 cents/litre at the pumps it means the difference of a pickup truck payment at the end of the month!!!!!!!
