: Did it myself....CHEAP
BullydogPowered 03-15-2005, 09:06 AM What do you guys think? All for 40.00. Made an amazing difference, get about 2 extra psi all the time plus the turbo spools at about 1200 rpm. Also can pretty much always hear the whine even when letting off the gas :)
BlueOx03 03-15-2005, 09:43 AM It looks like Lorena Bobbit is your mechanic.... ):h
If it works and keeps all the crap out, why not? :grd:
Max Payne 03-15-2005, 10:08 AM Until the filter wears a hole in it where it is laying on the airbox support. Every ghetto intake I have ever seen has a hole in the filter somewhere because the filter wasn't supported.
partsguy662 03-15-2005, 10:15 AM When I saw the title to this thread, I thought for sure PNUT had something to do with it......):h
Looks functional, bullydog.....Thanks for sharing the pic :)
BlueOx03 03-15-2005, 10:18 AM You could easly fab up a support bracket....
Got Juice? 03-15-2005, 10:21 AM You could easly fab up a support bracket....
Either that or daisy chain some ZipTies!
BullydogPowered 03-15-2005, 10:40 AM ive already got ideas on how to support it, believe it or not it actually isnt laying on anything but i am going to bend me a support bracket. beats the hell out of 309.00 for a kit
dmaxalliTech 03-15-2005, 11:51 AM Might make a shroud to keep the cool air in the filter and the hot engine underhood air out.
PEVOMAN 03-15-2005, 11:56 AM how noticeable is the performace increase...how bout MPG ?
BlueOx03 03-15-2005, 12:10 PM I was just thinking....if it's only 40bux, you could prolly kick it up to 100 and run duals in there, ya just need some PVC from Home Depot....
PEANUTGRWR 03-15-2005, 12:31 PM ive already got ideas on how to support it, believe it or not it actually isnt laying on anything but i am going to bend me a support bracket. beats the hell out of 309.00 for a kit
 YOURE SHOPPING FOR YOUR MODS IN THE WRONG PLACE IF THATS THE PRICE
BullydogPowered 03-15-2005, 12:35 PM Pevoman,
Performance increase is not very noticeable but you can definately tell the turbos spools faster and gives a few lbs more boost (2-3psi). as far as mpg not sure as ive only had it on for a week, will post mpg soon as i will have to fill soon.
Dmaxallitech - doesnt seem like that would make much difference really since the stock airbox pulled from inside too?
BullydogPowered 03-15-2005, 12:40 PM Where do you go Peanut?
JJs DuMax 03-21-2005, 09:24 AM BDPowered, doesn't the OEM airbox draw from the fender well area? My box isn't open towards the engine compartment. Without restricting where the airflow comes from won't it follow the path of least resistance, in your case from the engine area. That hotter air might impair rather than enhance your performance somewhat. :o: This is techie stuff so I'm just posing the question for other knowledgeable guys to ponder.
I do like the price though! Good ol' American ingenuity! JJ :)
dieselfumes57 03-21-2005, 01:05 PM i thinks its cool, esp compaired to the few hundred bucks of a intake
BullydogPowered 03-22-2005, 09:42 AM JJ's - in my 02 it drew air in from the side of the airbox next to the fender. Seemed stupid to me since it was still pulling in from the engine compartment. You are right about hotter air coming in, it will affect it some but now that it can breath i think the effect will be more positive than negative if only a tiny bit. Like i said the turbo does spool faster with the setup and gives a little more boost (1 or 2 lbs).
Thanks Dieselfumes, thats what i thought too.
yamahagrizzly 03-22-2005, 07:59 PM so what type of air filter is that? thats in my price range
txguppy 03-23-2005, 03:55 PM Might make a shroud to keep the cool air in the filter and the hot engine underhood air out.Yea, just save you a six-pack of 24-ouncers and get a pair of tin snips. You'd have a fine nice Bud Cool-Aero Deflector. (For our spanish speakers. That's funny! I don't care who you are .:grd:
