: injectores replaced potent oil smell now
At 99,000 I just had my dealer replace all 8 injectors in my 2002 lb7. They said I was having some misfire problems. Overall my truck I thought ran great. Since they have done this I have a very strong oil smell coming from the breather. Before they did this I never had that smell before. I was wondering what it might be? The Smell is very potent and if you don’t have the windows up I can barely handle it. I also changed the oil and the smell is still there. Also is there another tube that comes of the breather tube?
jraymer 10-12-2008, 10:56 PM I think I have been having the same nasty smell and I haven't had injectors yet. Also my oil pressure seems a bit lower that it used to be so I wonder if my injectors are getting ready to go.
fatboy63 10-13-2008, 06:24 AM I had the smell as well, low oil pressure etc. Changing out all 8 this week. Check your oil for contamination i.e. fuel mixing in with your oil.
jraymer 10-13-2008, 08:27 AM Yeah I have been reading your other posts tackling it yourself out there in Spain, very nice. I checked my oil, it didn't look over full but it didn't smell right at all. I guess I will go to the dealer and see if I have any warranty left.
fatboy63 10-13-2008, 02:43 PM Oh I wish I had the luxury or a dealer! I will try later to get something back, you never know. Bosch is local in Germany so may have a chance, even if only for the parts.
You have 7 yrs or 200,000 miles warranty. If your over the 200,000 it's not that difficult if you do it yourself; believe me. Cost would be injectors, return line washers, rocker cover sealant, oil and new filters and a few hours spannering (sorry wrenching)
800mountaincat 10-14-2008, 11:05 AM Hello HK45
I had the same real strong diesel smell right after having injectors changed. I thought it was just left over fuel residue from have it worked on. Then noticed that the oil pressure seemed to be lower than usual. Long story short, the rerurn line on the injectors were leaking where the banjo washer attaches the line to the injector. They put on new washers but the return line had a mark on it and the fuel was leaking past the washer and direclty into the oil. Poor work habits caued the scratch on the sealing service, and almost cost me a motor due to fuel dilution.
Get it checked out asap, just in case it is the same type of issue. Afterall, you said they just replaced the injectors.
Good luck.

I did have fuel in the oil. I took it back and they said that one of the injector return rates where really high. So they replaced all 4 on the passengers side. I still get an oil smell from the breather but he said it’s the new oil they use, and alot of people complain about the smell.
800mountaincat 10-24-2008, 10:55 PM watch your oil level REALLY close. If it starts to show signs of being overfull, I would suggest you get to the dealer and have them check it again.
Diesel fuel is not the best lubricant for the bearings.
After I got the return line leak fixed, No more diesel smell.
cdeankr 10-25-2008, 10:53 PM Is there any smoke coming out of the exhaust with this issue? Oh, what is the new oil that they are using? And what is the oil pressure that you are running?
I took it back to the dealer and they said that the driver side was leaking. So far they replaced 16 injectors ,since they dont like to replace just the one that was leaking they replace them all. I hope this will be the last time since i have a new airdog, EFI live , and tranferflow tank to install. I must have bad luck

That is a good one, the type of oil you use determines if you smell it inside the cab of the truck?
I believe they are a tad off on that one.
800mountaincat 10-26-2008, 10:40 PM You should notice right away that it doesn't smell as strong as it did.
At least your dealer SEEMS to be working with you.
But I have never heard any one say that the oil they use makes it smell like diesel.
They told me that they use a new oil that can be used in the lb7 up to the lmm. It does put out a very potent smell, but mixed with the diesel fuel really makes it smell. They did tell me they have alot of customers complain about the smell of the oil. O well they are working with me the only thing im mad about it they keep making me pay for the oil. I don't feel i should have to keep paying for the oil since they keep leaking. What do you guys think?
Tolliwacker 10-27-2008, 09:56 AM OH The oil is leaking out.. Now I can see how you smell it in the cab...
I would hope the oil leaqks are not that prevailant that they can narrow it down to which oil smells the worse over another.
Good luck with it, and like stated, Good to hear they are at least working with you. I would not pay for oil that they cannot keep inside the engine though.
