have 60,000 on my truck and would like to try the bio diesel. Has anyone had any problems w/ filters clogging up? There is a place right around the corner from me that sells it.

thanks, wayne

I wouldnt worry about it with only 60k miles on an 02.

I dont recall hearing about any filter issues anyway.

What is the blend, and what is the cost?

If you want to be real safe, keep an extra filter on board...............

Not sure of the blend or cost, I will look tommorrow. I guess it would be mixed for the weather here. You think?

You shouldn't have much if any built up crud in your fuel system at this time. In older trucks, crud can build up in the tank, and fuel lines. Bio-Diesel is a very good cleaner, and can cause the crud to come loose, and clog up the fuel filter.
It would be best to ask the dealer if the blend of BD he sells is appropreate for your current weather conditions.

well I just went by there and the soy biodiesel they sell is 100% bio. It is also $3.39 gal., so while I was filling up w/ regular diesel, a guy on the other side of the pump said you get half that back after you spend $200.00. I don`t know if it is worth the cost and hassel of mixing.

I blend myself, no biggie. Just add the BD, truck does the rest.

Just put in 5g somewhere between tanks.

Manny,

I normally fill up at a half a tank (34 gal tank), so I was planning to add 3.5 gallons of BD and top off with 14 gallons of diesel.

How long does it take to mix up in the tank when driving? Does it mix pretty fast?

I just need to find a cheaper source, am checking with another local vendor tomorrow.

I imagine in 3 years we will see a huge difference in price and availablity.

If you want B20 (which is where I seem to notice a difference) youll need about 7g of biodiesel.

You just put it in the tank, and between the fuel return system, and the 3/4 ton suspension, it gets mixed real fast. After adding B20, I can tell a difference within 10 miles.

Good luck with a search for some at a better price.

OK, I talked to a guy from Tevisoil.com. He said if you purchase b100 from oct. to oct. you get a one time rebate of 50%. So that makes it about $1.70 gal.

He also said I could run B20 down to -18, not sure of that. I think I will start adding 5 gal when I fill up.

Wow. Thats got to be the best price on biodiesel Ive ever heard of........

Stock the hell up. Cheaper than diesel, right?

Yeah, It`s cheaper than diesel W/ the rebate , but you only get to do it once. Unless the state decides to offer it again.

Where I live diesel is $2.21 gal, the closer you get to DC the higher it gets.

B20 smells real nice (especially on cold mornings) and the engine runs smoother, no smoke at all. Not to mention all of the lubrication, environ, etc benefits.........

5 minutes!

Are you buying a drum of B20 or B100?

If you get B100 you can mix it in your tank and have your own B20. It will go much further that way.

Good for you Jimbo. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/thumb.gif

If it were me, I would just buy B100 and add a few gallons at your leisure at home whenever. But then again I dont know your details.

How many gallons do you use / week? Sounds to me like you drive quite a bit, so that drum may be gone within a month......At least you wouldnt have to worry about longterm storage issues.

If you use fuel from your drum only, youll see a difference within 10 miles.

What price are you getting it at?

Also, if you get B100, you could get it without road tax, and use it as an "additive." You dont pay taxes on other diesel fuel supplements, do you? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Biodiesel is the wave of the future and the past. Oil went over $57 a barrel briefly yesterday. We can help ourselves and the american farmers by using biodiesel. I read online the the original design of the diesel engine was to be run on vegetable oil and more specifically peanut oil, but petrol diesel was more readily available at that time.
