the truck does not even try to fire.. the glow plug light does not even come on .. I have lost confadence in the engine and in the though process of chevy.. please some one help me...
w_huisman 03-14-2005, 08:32 PM I know it's hard to decipher the mood of a post on the internet, but....
man, you sound like the end of the world has begun! With all that money you spent on those parts you replaced, it sounds like you should have found this site sooner.
Kick back and relax. Someone will be along to help you shortly. I gotta jet.
dkubek 03-14-2005, 08:48 PM did the glow plug light adn the glow plugs work before dropping the money?
bowtie65 03-14-2005, 08:48 PM why dont you tell us something about your truck. go to user cp and tell us what goodies you have in it under your signature. look at the bottom of my post and you will see what i mean. it makes it easier for us to help troubleshoot. did you hook up the ground on your injector pump? plug your pmd back in? check battery ground? engine block grounds? check voltage? could be a million things at this point. need more info.
dkubek 03-14-2005, 08:49 PM Start off, by making sure everything is connected, tight, screwed in... before you go introducing the thing to grandpa's cap gun (12ga.).
quantum mechanic 03-14-2005, 08:51 PM No fuel, huh?
No glows either?
Have you checked the GP relay/fuse?
Are you using a jumper when you crank it?
Have you cracked the injector lines and cranked till fuel started coming out?
dkubek 03-14-2005, 08:53 PM beat me to the punch bowtie):h .
BTW, I just noticed where you are from. My Dad is from Ambridge. Grew up on 11th and Merchant.:ro)
Texas Diesel Guy 03-14-2005, 09:56 PM Sounds like you blew one of the ECM fuses, yours has the fuse box under the hood too right?
Caveboy 03-14-2005, 10:14 PM The truck is a 1995 chevy 1 ton with the 6.5 diesel (of course) I have just put a new clutch in it, fly wheel, rebuilt the trany, rebuild the transfer case, new fuel pump, fuel pump cylinod, fuel injector pump, ecu and thats all i can think of.
the engine ran for a while since i have worked on the trany and transfer case.. and the injector pump..

i have fuel to the injectors.. i checked all the fuses and they all seam good..
the glow plugs worked before i changed the ecu out.. i have been through 3 ecu's thinking that could be the problem.. the check engine light stays on..
i get oil preshure at the gauge..and have fresh batteries.. I have been told that if i have to much preshure in the fuel line then that could shut the engine down..
could it be the ignition switch??? not alowing the engine to stay on??
dkubek 03-15-2005, 01:15 AM Are you throwing any codes? Also, your g-plugs may be good, but is your relay still working? Quick way is just to watch you voltmeter. While the glow plug light is on, the voltage should drop way down. You will then hear a click and the voltage comes back up to ~12 then crank her. If there is no significant voltage drop and/or no click when the light shuts off, then it could just be your plug relay. Let us know.
Caveboy 03-15-2005, 09:31 PM the glow plug light will not come on at all any more. after the ecu and the fuel injector pump has been replaced.. i checked all the conections on the main wiring harnes coming ot the fuel injector punp and all seams well.. im stumped man bigger than dallas.... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/help.gifits making me sick everytime i try to work on the truck it just breaks down again..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif
quantum mechanic 03-16-2005, 05:30 PM Test the GP relay, the pink wire with black stripe going into GP relay is the trigger, it should come on with ign.
mackatpanamared 03-16-2005, 11:43 PM have something like that too sometimes mine will not kick i have narrowed it down to the flat plug or the round one on the fender if i grab the wires itll all kick right on i have cleaned and greased the plugs im kinda thinkin theres a wire busted in the jacket...like my 96 s10 blazer severel shops checked it out no fix then as i was checking wires i found that the coil powr wire was at fault i zip tied it in a loop it started right up and i got home just by accidnt i was pullin on that wire while it was being cranked
dkubek 03-17-2005, 12:49 AM Wher are you at now Caveboy? Any luck?
Caveboy 03-19-2005, 01:07 PM changed out GP relay and still no luck im getting new glow plugs today and see what happens.. im going to check all the wiring and see what i can find out.. thanks for all the advice.. still working on it my friends
Caveboy 03-19-2005, 04:22 PM changed the gp relay and the glow plugs them selves checked all wiring and still no fire.. one glow plug was half way gone.. burnt up.. im doing some research now about my problem still.. any other suggestions with out pushing it off a cliff??
Texas Diesel Guy 03-19-2005, 04:24 PM Hook a scanner up to it, with that year model ECM, you can command the Glowplug relay on, that will allow you to check the wiring and maybe see where the signal is getting lost.
Caveboy 03-19-2005, 06:01 PM i replaced the glow plugs and one of the glow plugs was broken and half of it was missing.. i dont think that it broke coming out i think it broke in the engine..
we couldnt find the other piece and continued to replace the plugs and started the engine.. it took a while but got it running.. making a loud nocking noise and at a higher rpm shacks and makes alot of noise and smoke very bad.. i think the piece of glow plug is still in the cylinder and is scratching the wall to hell.. any one have any suggestions or similer expierences.. or wanna buy a 1995 chevy 1 ton 6.5 diesel???
Texas Diesel Guy 03-19-2005, 07:05 PM Pull the injector and glowplug out of that cylinder and try to fish the broken piece out, try blowing air in the GP hole and watch for it to come out the injector hole, but DON"T run the engine til you get it out!
Caveboy 03-20-2005, 08:12 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif I got the ok to start thinking about rebuilding that engine..
I am going to try to get the old glow plug out first.. But i was wondering if any one had any suggestions when i do rebuild these engine.. I want some more power in it.. what cam u suggest or what not.. 1 diesel engine rebuild so not to knowledgable on it.. now gas i can get.. any thoughts would be helpfull..
thanks guys
quantum mechanic 03-21-2005, 07:59 AM The parts for this engine don't come cheap. Try to deceide how much you can spend and go from there.
You should be able to push a broken GP tip out the injector hole with both the GP and injector removed. A compression check seems in order.
Caveboy 03-21-2005, 04:49 PM If i did scratch the cylinder is there anything i can do to fix it with out a total rebuild or not.. i dont know how diesels are i know gas engines ur up a creek with a broken paddel
quantum mechanic 03-21-2005, 05:24 PM Not much difference, simpler even.
You can hone damaged cylinder(s), put in an oversized piston .020" over, .040" over, .060" over.
Some places ask a mint for each piston. ~$200 each
Some ask alot less on the auction site but lots of question unanswered there.
Caveboy 03-21-2005, 11:07 PM What can i do to the engine to get some more power out of it.. if im going to be in it i might as well buff it up..
quantum mechanic 03-21-2005, 11:14 PM If you care to see what I'd did with the heads off.

Caveboy 03-26-2005, 03:35 PM I tryed to star the engine again after fishing for hours and not finding anything and talking to a few guys that all agree that the glow plug was burnt up along time ago and not to worry about it..
I got it started and it runs really rough and black smoke comes out of the exhauste.. im going to make shure my injector pump is in time and all my lines are correct..
Caveboy 03-26-2005, 06:02 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/grd.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rant.gif THANKS GUYS.. thanks for all the info and help i got the truck running like a champ... put all the glow plugs in and worked with the injector pump and got it running...
Its a hoss..
Thanks againhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
