I was told by a salesman via email that most long bed GM trucks are the work trucks. Is this true? If so, what is major dif in regular vs. work trucks. I would like to have carpet, but most work trucks I've seen online have rubber flooring.

Not sure about most of them being work trucks or not.
But the difference is, a work truck will be a basic truck. Radio, no CD player, no power anything, rubber floor, cloth seat. ECT...

Mine is a long bed and it is loaded, everything but leather. However when I was looking for mine alot of the long beds were work trucks so it took me awhile to find mine. Good luck in your search.

Check with Palmetto Chevrolet in Comway SC ask for Robert Jordan. They seem to do a lot of LB trucks.

Probably told you that since he's trying to sell vehicles that are in stock and is trying to move whatever they have. The long box is available in any of the finish levels made by GMC or Chev. My long box is loaded-leather and all that stuff. The long box is not the most common, the short box being the most popular. Some geographic areas simply don't care for the long box. Generally urban. The LB is pretty common here in N.E. NV but it's rural and plenty of parking. In Tallahassee you can hardly give them away since parking can be problematic if downtown. To me, if you can't get a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed and close the tail gate it simply isn't a truck.

Most dealers like to leave basic trucks sitting on their lot, and make you come in and order something if you want it with the "cool" options.

Ditto. The dealer wasn't lying to you, though. CCLB's are a dime a dozen in a Ford 250 but I hardly see a CCLB 2500 unless it is a work truck. When I wanted to purchase one the dealer ran a nationwide search and turned up none found for the options I wanted. I had to have full floor rubber but with power everything and cloth seats. I ended up ordering it which worked out great since I got to spec' everything on the truck and it's exactly the way I wanted.

Mine is a CCLB LT2 with rubber floors. The dealer that we transfered it from did alot of snow plow prep and work trucks but mine was ordered by a customer and then for one reason or another backed out. Must have been my twin that ordered it b/c it has every option just the way I would have done it.

Mine's a loaded CCLB STL (pics in my garage). Use it to tow a trailer to get AWAY from work. :D

Have always had a long box so it would've been hard to downsize. Needed to crewcab for the family. Took about 8 months to find it (used) but I lucked out. By the time tool chest in installed, it becomes a "short box" anyways.

That to me is the reason for the truck. The crew cab is because winters here are too cold to keep the kids in the back;).

I don't think the dealers work too hard searching other dealers inventory. I spent over 6 months looking for a extended cab, long bed, 4x4 with the Duramax. Of course I was in Southern California (San Diego) at the time. I went to several dealers. Every one could get or had a short bed, but all of them claimed that they could not find a long bed anywhere in California. I had one dealer tell me the nearest one was in Reno Nevada. I ended up calling a dealer in El Centro which is about 75 miles to the east (still in CA), but is a huge farming comunity. The dealer had three of them on his lot. I went and bought it the next day. He was baffled why none of the dealers in San Diego could not locate it.

By the way mine has carpet, cloth seats and AM/FM cassett and CD. I would not classify it as a work truck, but it does its share.

2500HD LTZ here with 8 foot box.. I also have crew cab, which I think is the biggest reason you don't see long boxes as much, the over all length is just too big for most that don't need the box. I just threw a tape measure down and took a rough measurement, seems to be a touch over 21 feet long...

http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/9929/truck123qd4.jpg

I don't even attempt to get into too tight of parking lots.. I also don't mind parking in the back of the lot away from everyone.. Not a door dent yet! Mine see's the oil patch and the farm, just have to make a conscience effort to keep it clean.

Mine is an 02 LT CC LB. All the options including heated leather seats. My wife doesn't want another vehicle without them.

X4 on being able to get 8 foot lumber, of any variety, into the bed and still be able to close the tailgate.

I always park in the back 40 anyway so parking the long bed is not a problem.

I needed mine in a hurry, so thats why I went from alberta to connecticut to get it. It's got pretty much everything except DVD, not that I needed it this fancy, but everything else was right, including the price so I jumped on it...

Mines an LB loaded with leather.... it's the 1st truck I ever had with all the bells and whistles. To be honest... I'll never have another work truck without leather... so much nicer to keep clean.

I believe the salesman had it backward- It's not most long beds are work trucks, but most work trucks are long beds.
Most people that buy a truck that are going to use it for a work truck buy a long wheel base, So they can carry a bigger load. But there are plenty of long beds out there that are loaded, mine is a long bed (LT2 package) with just about everything but leather seats, and a DVD/TV. A lot of people that buy a long bed that don't need a long bed buy it because the ride on a long wheel base is smoother ride than a short no matter if you tow with it or not.:D Just my opinion.

Mine's an extended cab long bed, and it's loaded - leather, carpet, Bose stereo w/6 CD changer, electric towing mirrors, heated seats and mirrors, aluminum wheels, OnStar, yadda, yadda, yadda...

I've seen several of them similar to mine in this area that are not work trucks. They're out there...

Unless I was really buying it for a job or business, I wouldn't own a work truck. Guess I'm spoiled... ):h

Bingo!!!

Personally when I can get mine (when the wife let's me LOL) I'm ordering it... If I'm spending THAT much on a truck I want EXACTLY what I want PERIOD.

Now if you have to have it NOW.... yeah you will have to find something close.

i read your post again and now i understand what your asking, they are not as common. when i bought mine i payed about 4k less than i would have for a 2500 with cloth. they had about 15 2500 and only 1 3500 L.B, so I stole it!

How to find the truck without the dealer.

You can do your homework without going to the dealer. Use GM's website either chevy or GMC and then build your truck. Then you can then locate your truck. I found my truck and you can type in different zip codes to expand your search. I found my truck in Maryland and I live in Richmond, VA. Then when you find your targets print out the data and either call the dealer itself to verify it is still in stock or you could go to your local dealer and give them a copy of the sheets and they can verify it is in stock, then you can then tell the dealer to get it. My dealer was more than willing to do that for me and I got what I wanted except the color but I can live with what I got.
My truck has most of the options except navigaition radio and no DVD or sunroof. But It has all the rest and love it. Truck is in sig below.
You can beat the dealer at their own game.
