: Trade in value for a 2005
fishingn 03-14-2005, 05:43 PM What would be a fair trade in value for an 05 GMC 2500HD d/a SLT. Color is silver birch/pewter leather. I cant seem to find any sites that have any dollar values yet. Thinking about trading in for a lesser payment & truck. Dealer i bought from said they would give me 32k trade in, i felt like i was getting violated at the time.

briano 03-14-2005, 05:46 PM honestly with all the things you have added to it..you will never get back what you put in it by trading it in. My 04.5 is rated at 32k right now so yours has to be more than that.
I would run an ad or something and sell it outright to break even at least.
just my $.02.. good luck either way
duramex 03-14-2005, 08:15 PM I was told 32k 3 days ago w/o extra goodys 04 lly cc/dualy. 19500. mi -XM ect...
John DiMartino 03-14-2005, 08:24 PM if you live in a state like NY where the dealer only can deduct the trade in value off your total purchase, you may want to jump on that 32000. In Ny with our 8.25% tax rate if your new truck was 42000,you'd only need to pay the tax on 10000 dollars, not 42000.If your tax rate is 8.25,you need to get 34640 for it outright to get the same as a dealer trade in of 32000. Also you never said if the truck is an excab or crew cab,the crew cab is worth quite a bit more.
fishingn 03-14-2005, 11:07 PM Sorry it is a crew cab loaded out as well. Only thing i dont have on it is the DVD. The 32K sounds low to me. They say they take the invoice price minus rebates & mileage deduction & came up with that number. I know they will try & resale it for at least 36K iam guessing. Thats true about the tax savings with a trade in, truck i was looking at the taxes were only going to be $400.00.
txguppy 03-15-2005, 12:47 PM Go to www.kbb.com That's the Kelly Blue Book website. Fill in the blanks. I got $30k for my Zip Code, don't know what cab/bed you have.
fishingn 03-15-2005, 01:23 PM I went to KBB but there are no options for the 2005 yet. I have the C/C SB 2wd
txguppy 03-15-2005, 02:07 PM The '05 options are there, I just did your truck and got $30k price, but for my Zip.
fishingn 03-15-2005, 03:22 PM I cant find the 2005 values on the site. My zip code is 77536. All i see is 2004. The dealer called & said they would give me 33K trade in. With the sales tax at 6.25% i guess iam getting more like 35K. Just not sure on what iam going to do just yet,its a tough decision.
briano 03-15-2005, 04:06 PM I looked at kbb.com, edmunds.com , and nada.com and could not find 2005 values..
you might try calling your bank and see if they can punch up the value for you or something.
txguppy 03-15-2005, 06:12 PM My bad, yes it's still 2004, I just assumed the default was 2005. Anyway, if the 2004 works out to $30k, then the '05 oughta be considerably higher than $32k he's offered, ya think?
DuckhunterInTN 03-16-2005, 06:00 PM You are going to have to drop way down (think fairly plain 2wd 1500 ext cab) if you are really going to come out ahead....
jasonesmith12 03-16-2005, 07:24 PM It would sell on ebay for 38000 or more. I suggest you do that.
Whatever you paid for it, deduct 10grand and hope that is all the lower the dealer goes.
Probably be better off keeping it and makin the payments.
bikeme 03-17-2005, 03:31 AM Suck it up and keep it a little longer if you can swing it, if you don't want to loose your butt. Fact is, it's too new and book values won't be available for a while since there is an abundance of new ones right now and you can still order one til' May or so. Ebay would be a good shot, reaches a larger area and you keep the profit the dealer adds. Need to find someone that has cash lying around. Also it's a 2WD, I fear that will limit you a bit.
Keep in mind a few things:
1. Dealers on a used vehicle want a 3-5k (or more) profit margin. Add that to their trade number that will give you an idea of what they think they can get for it.
2. GM currently on the same new truck has 0%-60 month financing, that can amount to thousands of dollars. That will swing most buyers. The dealer will likely have to sit on your truck until the new deals dry up or new inventory disappears.
3. The aftermarket stuff isn't helping you with the dealer, take it off and sell it seperate. On a private deal it would help, I think.
4. Your trade is effecting the new truck price you are looking at as well. You can get a better deal with no trade.
Bottom line: You may get a lower payment, but you are going to pay a premium for it.
kybones67 03-17-2005, 06:09 AM man you are toast!! The new car incentives are great when you try to buy a new car but kill you when trying to trade such a new one. John consumer can buy a new one cheaper
duramaxgoose 03-17-2005, 06:38 AM can you refinance your truck for alonger term to reduce you notes ? If you planned on keeping you truck for 4-7 years I would think about it, that's alot of truck just to loose back on a trade in..
fishingn 03-17-2005, 09:59 AM Well iam going to keep it. I dont feel like losing money on it trading with the dealer.
Kendall69 03-17-2005, 09:33 PM The dealer incentives are un beatasble at this time - no finacing for 5 years, no one in their right mind would buy used and pay 7-8% interest when they can save 6k on interest and apply that to a new or better vehicle.
juke6.6 03-18-2005, 03:31 PM you should find out what the dealer is asking for an 05 tricked out as close as you can, this will give you a ball park to selling yours on your own.:grd:
