About a week ago my truck started not changing gears when you floor it. When you let off the pedal it will then change into the next gear.

At first I thought that it was the tranny doing this but I noticed the RPM's stay around 3000 when it does this. If it was the tranny I would think they would shoot up further.

I recently put the new style fuel filter, I primed it just like always but when I started it up it died. It did start right up the next time. I checked to see if I had any water in the fuel and it looks good because during one of these episodes I noticed smoke boiling out of the tail pipe.

I have about 50,000 miles with no problems until now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Did your problems start before or after you replaced your fuel filter?

I pulled the fuel filter off and the big o-ring was stretched out.

I am assuming that this was the problem or the filter was bad some how. It was harder to put on than the previous filters as well as the new one I put on last night. There was no water or trash that I could see in the problem filter.

I have put a new fuel filter on and it has been running fine today.:ro)

Cadmax,

Per Racor (manufacturer of the fuel filter for the Duramax), the o-ring should be lubed before installing the filter. Did you do that?

Yes.

Mine did the same thing and it turned out it was the injectors. I would have it checked out soon because mine was put fuel into the crank case.
