My 2004.5 chev has these rubber flaps that cover the hood hindge area...when going about 70 with a cross wind it sounds like big bugs splatting against the windshield. Has any one else had this problem???I have put rubber bumpers under the flaps but they still make a loud noise...HELP Thanks

If its what I think your talking about its the strips about 1" wide and 4" or so long? If it is I put a dab of sylacone under them and it held them down.

Do you have a bug deflector? If so it likely is that making the noise. It is probably the moulding around the windshield. Your options are to glue it down or remove the bug deflector or get a GM bug deflector.

I would agree with Max Power, my 03 did that flapping noise thing, took it to the dealer, the tech knew exactly what the prob was, the windshield molding (evidently a common problem), glued it down, no more noise.

Yep, they've been doing this since MY '99. Bug deflectors throw off turbulence which causes the windshield molding (on the sides of the windshield) to flap. It gets worse in a crosswind. The whole windshield acts like a speaker, so it's hard to hear where it's coming from.

Either remove the bugshield, or use some silicone to glue down the windshield molding...on the two sides, where it can kind of peel up slightly.

Do you have to use a "special" windshield silicone? Can a person do it themselves, or does a dealer have to do it?
Thanks,

i would think anybody could do it, although if its still under waranty i would take it in just for the principle.
if you do it yourself, i would use black silicone. and let it dry before driving or put tape over it if you cant wait.

Its those flaps covering the hood hinge bolts! And trucks without bug deflectors do it too! Not sure what they are talking about when they say "windsheild molding". Mine flapped before and after bugshield and my buddy's also flaps, and he ain't got no bugshield!

a sure way to tell if it is those flaps would be to tape them down or remove to see if that fixes the noise.
just my .02

and by window molding, we mean the black plastic/rubber thing that surrounds the windshield on the outside. (you can grab it with your finger, let it loose and it will pop back against the windshield, basically what the wind is doing to it)

my bug deflector caused the same problem. It is the moudling on the sides of the windshield. Get a tube of silicone and cut the tip for a very small bead, lay a bead of silicone just large enough to fill the gap between the glass and the moulding.

I have not had a problem since.
