: Tires
rp199 03-14-2005, 02:29 PM Hey guys I will need new tires in the next couple of months.:( I have BF goodrich 285/ 75 all terain currently and have about 50,000 0n the tires. I have been running mostly at the 85 hp setting ):h with my predator and average 16 mpg and change around town and 19mpg hwy. A friend of mine had michelins and put 90,000:eek: on the tires thats pretty impressive. Would be intrested to see what every one else is ridding on and average numbers because I am thinking about going down to 265 /75 if the numbers are worth it. would hate to give up the look of the 285s though
HDINNC 03-14-2005, 02:39 PM I run the 265 /75 Michelins and have on my last two trucks. I personally would not run anything else unless, I just could not afford them. My last truck had right at 90,000 on them, these I have now are around 40,000 and look just fine. :)
sprintmod1 03-14-2005, 04:20 PM Winter--BFG All-Terrain TKO's, have 20,000+ on them--little better than half left
Summer--Michelin LTX M/S, have 30,000+ on them--like new
Scotty Seelen 03-14-2005, 04:30 PM I have Michelin LTX AT 265/75R16 on my current truck. I have 44000 miles on the tires. They have SLIGHTLY more than 1/2 tread left. Impressive. That's running the Hypertech 96hp, Bullydog 95hp and currently the Banks 6-gun with speedloader. I did my fair share of WOT runs.
dollyo11 03-14-2005, 06:45 PM run goodyear 265 for 25k burnt out// 265 Michelin m/s 30k still like new / no road noise next set will be the same//
kbstinky 03-14-2005, 09:56 PM How quiet are the Michelin LTX AT 265/75R16 tires????
I am big on QUIET......
Mike L. 03-14-2005, 10:17 PM How quiet are the Michelin LTX AT 265/75R16 tires????

GMC2500HD 03-14-2005, 10:24 PM I run TOYO 285/75-16's on my truck. They are the A/T and they are quite and ride very nicely. I would look into those... Just my opinion..
dollyo11 03-14-2005, 11:43 PM I have the 265 LTX M/S and do a lot of mountain driving , worked good this winter in light snow that we had although u don't have that problem in Concord. No road noise at all even pulling the cayon at 65 mph between here and Eagle Lake//
Burner 03-15-2005, 12:06 AM The TOYO's are really nice tires in 285. They grip very well, drive well, ballance well, grip well in the rain/ice, work pretty good off-road but they do not last as long as I think they should and do have just a tad of road noise. ....The Michelins...well, the wife really likes them and she was "almost due" for another set @ 60K.....so, I bought two sets of 5, one for her and one for me. Yep, took the plunge and got 10 of the 265 things at one time. Holly smokes!..a little more than I expected. I must say, the tires work very well on most accounts. For the 'street only' wife's (8.1 Yukon XL) they are almost perfect. However, for me they do well except for the 70ft black marks when I go WOT without power breaking. Traction is limmited if you're empty but if you're loaded they work GREAT. The tires ride very well and are very very quiet, you cannot hear them. .........There must always be a trade-off--> They suck in the mud and rain! -:t I had a small 16ft trailer and tried to back out of my buddies driveway while it was raining and could not do it. I had to use 4x4 to back out..and his driveway is concrete! There again, If I were loaded it would not have been a problem.

SpoolinTurbo 03-15-2005, 01:00 AM I have BFG AT/KO's and they have 20,000 on them right now and still holding strong.
Scotty Seelen 03-15-2005, 07:19 AM kbstinky,
The Michelin LTX AT's are quiet.
WillowCreekStable 03-15-2005, 07:52 AM Michelin LTX M/S 265's here, over 60,000 miles, lots of tread left. I think they are quiet, hard to tell over the 4" pipe. A buddy of mine put 285 LTX M/S on his truck. Load range D instead of E, but I think the actual load rating of the D exceed the stock 245 E's.
BullydogPowered 03-15-2005, 08:21 AM Ive got 285/75/16 BFG AT's and they are very quiet. This is my first set of them. I have had 265/75/16 Michelin LTX MS on my 1/2 ton trucks. They are extremely quiet, hold the road very well, and 90,000 miles + is not uncommon. If youre looking for life, Michelin is the way to go. They are big $ though.
moakster 03-15-2005, 05:29 PM I run the Michelin LTX M/S 265-75 and love them. The 245 original tire would not grip anything. have about 25K on them and they look fine. I can see the tread wear mark getting closer though. I guess I had better stop WOT burnouts or it's gona cost another $600 for tires. Anyway great tires and I will be buying another set when these are gone. Quiet, traction and style.
Burner 03-15-2005, 09:03 PM You paid 600 for a set? ..... ya gott'a be kidd'n?
HDINNC 03-15-2005, 09:12 PM $600.00! I wish I could get a set of Michelins for that price! Try $800.00 after adding in tax! Mine are 10 ply however.
supatrucka 03-15-2005, 09:28 PM I just replaced my michalin ltx m/s 265E and they had 52k on them two were worn to the wear marks and the other two were worn half way they are a real good tires they were on my winter wheels and i just replaced them with cooper ST's which is a real good tire in the snow and not that loud. So if your looking for a tire for both seasons and don't do any off road go with the LTX M/S. dave
noreaster 03-16-2005, 10:06 AM Im going to be upgrading to 285s from 265s, think im going to go with nitto terra grapplers. found a site that has them for $112. they look pretty good & nobody has them around here, everybody has bfg's. Been there done that. just seems that you should get some ky when you buy bfg's., but thats my opinion
Autobyla 03-16-2005, 01:06 PM I have a set of 285 nitto's on my stock rims and they look great. They were cheaper than other tires and will proably only last 30k. Make sure if you run empty most of the time that you run like 35psi in the rear or you'll were the centers badly. I have 8k on my set and they don't seem that bad but I can tell that they have worn.
Burner 03-16-2005, 01:32 PM Autobyla...... you hit the nail on the head! It's not the compounds, it's the case casting that's the problem. Really tough tire that's made very well..with a flexing case. Heck, my sets of BFG's did the same thing. With both types....in the first 6 to 10K the tire would be down to 50 or 60% and then last another 15 to 20K, first part wears really fast.
WAskier 03-16-2005, 01:58 PM I've got a set of Yokohama Geolander AT's in a 285 on less than stock wheels. The tire shop siped them for me without even asking so that was a nice bonus for me. Anyway, They've got just over 8k miles on them now and they're wearing well, the truck is almost never loaded. They worked amazingly well in the short winter we had here when I took it up to the mountains, hardly ever lost traction in the snow and ice.
MXdiesel 03-17-2005, 11:02 PM yea i had those toyos on my last truck and the were quiet, supposed to last a long time (i didnt own that truck long enough to know), dont hydroplane as easily, self clean from mud/debris well, and in a magizine (sry i forget which one i got it out of) they rated well, especially for a tire thats meant to work well on and offroad. They are very practical for an all terrain tire although i really prefer the look of the BFG.
roswell 03-17-2005, 11:19 PM 285 dueller at revos on mine, and couldn't be happier. They cost a little more, but if you go read the surveys at tirerack.com, you'll see that a cheaper set of geolanders probably will have less than HALF the life of dueller revos. Remeber, price/mile is what you want to figure, not price per set of tires. Nice and quiet too...
MKILROY 03-21-2005, 08:44 AM I had 285 Revo on my last truck. I am going with 265 LTX's on this truck. The revos were to loud and wore horrible in the middle, I only ran 45psi and towing a 30' 11,000 pound boat I was always nervous with side wall bulge.....
mossy 03-21-2005, 10:14 AM Toyo Open Country A/Ts . The 265s will run you about $150 a piece. My friend has them on his Z-71 and he'll go almost anywhere my HD with mudders will go. I was shocked at how well these "mild" A/Ts do off road. They are very quiet on road, and offer great wet weather/snow traction.
I had BFG A/Ts on my HD and they only lasted 25K miles. I was very surprised at how fast they wore. I've ran the BFGs for a long time on 1500s and never got less than 50K out of them. I don't know why they wore so fast on my HD,maybe the BFG is too soft for a HD P/U?
Burner 03-21-2005, 12:04 PM FYI.... Toyo and Nitto are the same basicly. They have the same case and very similar tread design and compound. Just wait........the "new" tires will be something to have in a year or so.....
CRONOJETMAX 04-03-2005, 10:08 PM I Have Had B/stone's,toyo's,bfg's,michelins And Goodyears.the Best
Tire For Spring, summer And Fall Is The Michelin Ltx M/s The Best
Overall Is The Yokohama Geolander At Ii Not Too Noisy, wears Well
And Has Excellent Mud And Snow Traction And Control
spoolnaround 04-09-2005, 12:40 AM Toyo Open Country A/Ts . The 265s will run you about $150 a piece. My friend has them on his Z-71 and he'll go almost anywhere my HD with mudders will go. I have about 1k on my 295/75/16's, very quiet and great road manners. I will find out how well they do towing 15K#'s and in the sand here in two weeks.
ZR1160 04-11-2005, 09:31 AM With any of these tires, what's the highest speed do you feel comfortable maintaining? I have 285 LTX M/S. With the help of the Predator I can haul my Enclosed Sled trailer at 130Kph forever( Trailer is 9ft high and 8 feet wide.)
