Another plow question. Dealer says plow is not recommended for my truck (see sig) by GM and GM won't allow them to install one. Opinions? Anyone else have an 05 HD that they plow with and if so what if anything would you recommend to have done to the truck? Thanks in advance.

We had one on our 04 cc. We don't plow commercially, but it was a Western 7 1/2 ft pro plow. Gave us no problems. Lots of guys on here have bigger plows than that.

I was looking at plows for my truck and the plow manufacturer said you need balast weight on rear of truck. Must be because of weight of diesel engine. ???

That's what the dealer told me why they couldn't put a plow on it. He said the same year gasser was OK.

Plow guy is correct and that is why GM doesn't offer plow prep pkg for DMax CC 2500. Not sure if that also applies to CC 3500 Dmaxes?? I am not saying that you couldn't do it and be okay, I am sure many here have. But, you might run into this at many plow dealers/installers that say they won't install one.

I plow with a reg cab 2500HD gasser, quite a bit different, but the same concept still applies. I have heard about the weight being an issue, especially since these trucks are independent front axle instead of solid front axle. You might be able to get around if you beef up your front end. I'd recommend that you get some Timbrens for the front, they'll elp the weight situation. Also look for a lighter plow, a Fisher, probably will put you way over weight. Definitely get some weight in the back. What are you looking to plow? Check out plowsite.com, lots of guys have asked this question and an answer should easily be found.

The no plow prep pkg only applies to CC Dmaxes, ext cabs and regular cabs with diesel Dmax can come plow prepped from factory

Wow, that makes no since to me  is the front end of the CC different than EC or RC Dmaxes?

Not only do I plow with a CC dmax (2500HD), but my GM dealer is the one who installed it. I haven't had any problems, but my plow is only a 7.5'.

Did they do anything to your suspension? I'd really like to go with an 8' blade but I would do 7 and a half if I have to.

Just to add my $.02. I'm on my 3rd CC Dmax and run 8.5' MVP V plows. I've ran everything from stock to 285's cranked to 4" Cognito and 35's on 20's, you name it. Through the years I've upgraded, starting with Timbrens (they are ok, but nothing spectacular), to now running the air bag/over shocks up front. I never run ballast except in my 2wd service truck. Ballast is nice, but not 100% necessary, nor are the shocks/Timbrens. I just run them cuz I can! Lol. I actually run in 2wd often, and may use ballast this year just to be able to more. I plow commercially and have for years. I have to say, out of countless plow trucks, a CC Dmax is the way to roll! Like plowing in a Cadillac.

We only average 20"'s of snow here so I'm not plowing everyday.Last year I plowed once.Hopefully I can get two or three plowes in this year. With that being said If I'm plowing, its in comfort (cadillac is right).

Just remember when you taste good wine its hard to go back to cheap stuff. cc/dmax-old ford 250

Check out my sig.

Dealers hands are tied but federal regs, but its your truck, do what you want. See http://www.blizzardplows.com/power_match.asp for what fits, note it will not allow a diesel. Fed's figure 6 seat belts, 6 passengers when plowing, that puts the truck over the axle rating.
With any plow, turn up the t-bars 5-8 turns, realign the front end and run'r. if you want extra insurance add a set of timberns also.
79k on the 01, no issue related to the plow. No issue with the dealer for warranty either....

I have been plowing commercial for about 10 years. I have never had a problem with any of my trucks, either ec or cc, 3 gassers and 2 diesels. I always run some form of ballast to help keep some of the weight on the rear end, about 500lbs. Right now, im plowing with an 8'6 meyer and 12" wings in use in light snow, usally under 4" of powder. Good luck.

What are Timbrens?

got-h2o
10-08-2008, 09:53 PM
What are Timbrens?

Oversized bump stops that take the place of your factory ones. They help take the load off of your torsion bars, causing the truck to not squat as much. ;)

What I would do if I were you is to put a set of timbren(rubber load springs) on the front of your truck, that way it doesn't put so much pressure on the front end...

Bear in mind that all they do is take some load off the t-bars so it doesn't squat. The rest of the front end components still suffer the extra weight. Hubs, etc......

I agree with this;dont think that if you have the best of the best that nothing is going to happen.

If you hang a half ton off the front of your truck and start pushing snow then you might be a redneck:DPushing snow is the worst thing for the suspension, racing is the worst for the engine and pulling is the worst for the whole truck.

If you buy a old pulling truck then I hope you dont find this place:cool:

I finally got a clear answer from my dealer why the CC is not recommended but the EC & RC are OK. He said that they figure in the average wieght of passengers with 6 people inside. Guess The extra wieght of the plow would be less than and extra 4 or 5 people and since I won't be plowing with a load of passengers I think I will be just fine. ;)
