: Seats in a 05
ochster 03-14-2005, 10:07 AM After a recent road trip (5800 miles in six day's) I have concluded the seats have got to go. Not sure if this will involve some rework to the oem's or entire replacement. Would also be nice to have a full recline. Has anyone else come to this conclusion?
ssduramax 03-14-2005, 10:35 AM what is different on the 05 seats? I have the 04 buckets, 6 way power, leather. I hate that they don't recline all the way too.
Max Power 03-14-2005, 10:42 AM I like my seats. They don't recline all the way but it's not a big deal to me.
ochster 03-14-2005, 10:55 AM The "upgraded cloth" seats seem worse than my 03' Duramax's were. They are a far cry from the cloth units our Tahoe's have come with. I'm only 140lbs and they flat out are unbearable after a couple hours. Our new truck also has very little padding on the console cover which I use as a arm rest, the 03' was better padded and tolerable. I'm sure I would be laughed at if I tried to make a warranty issue out of this, but I'm quite dissapointed.
BlueOx03 03-14-2005, 10:58 AM Do you have the 8-way power/heated seat? IMO thet're the best seats of any full size rig and a big reason I bought a GMC. If you have the base seats, I understand, my old work truck had those and they suck!

Fred G 03-14-2005, 11:54 AM I have the optional leather seats in my 03 CC LS, they don't have the bells and whistles of the LT seats, but the are very comfortable, even w/o any lumber adjustment. Wow, yet another example of GM cutting costs and quality at the same time!
txguppy 03-15-2005, 02:44 PM Ochster, if you have the 6-8 way power adjusting seat, I would suggest you sit in it and play with it awhile, the seat that is. The seat comes, I would assume, very generically positioned. It took alot of adjusting of my seat controls to get it comfortable. Mainly lowering the back/raising the front for comfort.
haneym 03-15-2005, 03:41 PM i dont know what youre expecting, but this is the most comfortable seat of any vehicle i have ever ridden in! normally, my back is killing me after driving for a couple hours (happens in my wifes old celica, new accord, my old truck and my parent tahoe) but not in this truck! i have the cloth 6 way power seat and its great. ive driven 400 miles without stopping and never even thought about being uncomfortable. the seats and interior are the #1 reason i chose my truck.
Aron420 03-15-2005, 04:24 PM just a thought ... are u guys sitting on your wallet wile on these trips cuz i sat on my wallet on a 6 hour trip for about 3 hours and couldnt figure out why my back hurt. Then i realazed i had my wallet in my back pocket and had been sitting on it for 3 hours straight. So i leened over and pulled it out of my back pocket and the second i sat back down it felt like my spine realined and the pain was gone. I later found out that sitting on your wallet for long periods of time will cause back problems because it throse everything out of wack in your back. Just a thought, anyone else had this happen?
TEXMudder 03-15-2005, 04:29 PM I cant stand the seats either. My biggest complaint is the length of the bottom section. I am by no means tall (5' 9") and i hate having no support under my legs. Then my knee rubbing on center console...ugh I wont go there.
Reineke 03-16-2005, 06:14 AM While on road trips, I find the seat starting to become uncomfortable, I just move it to a different position. makes a world of difference. Move it around a bit if you can and see how you like it.

Yep! I usually put it in that small compartment at the front of the door tray but when I forget, I do get that painful reminder...
problemchild 03-17-2005, 01:33 AM Do what I did.........
Have a custom contoured piece of memry foam made to fit your back. Put it on the seat and cover the whole danged thing with a black sheepskin. Now Im riding in heaven.
funtoy 03-20-2005, 02:55 PM How to remove head rest so can put the sheep skins on?
Wayne Dohnal 03-21-2005, 12:05 AM These seats seem to fit some people well, and other people not so well. I don't like the driver's seat at all. I have an Audi that I'm totally comfortable in, but I have a hard time going far in the truck without a hurting back. On the other hand, my wife thinks they're great, as do many others.
I've found three things that help: (1) A 1" piece of foam behind my back. (2) The lumbar support bugs me, and my natural reaction is to retract it all the way. But I found over time that pushing it out some helps a lot for longer trips. When it's pushed out, it feels a little uncomfortable, but it saves the major back pain coming on later down the line. (3) I took the seat out and adjusted the jackscrew that lifts the seat bottom at the front so I can get the front higher and have a steeper tilt.
An unrelated but contributing factor is that I pulled the center console and put in a center seat. The seat's builtin armrest squeezed my body too much to be comfortable.
