The information on this site has been very helpful in the maintenance of our trucks--Thank You All!!
When going to the dealer for service should we request the truck be worked on by a "diesel mechanic"? We feel they let anyone work on it and save the major problems for the specialist. We have one truck that needs to be checked out for: rough idle(read here it needs a reflash or injector) and steering column knock. Should we request a diesel mechanic to work on the truck, will we even know??
Need a good dealer in Rhode Island for service, any advice?

Depends on how competent the mechanics are. There is one dealer I've been to here in San Diego that I will never let work on my truck again and they were diesel mechanics. You're problem could be a reflash which could be done by any mechanic that knows how to use a techII. If it is an injector related problem it all depends on the mechnaic. The intermediate steering shaft fix can be done by any mechanic since it isn't just limited to the diesel trucks.

Your best bet is to find a dealer that you know won't give you any BS and has a good service reputation. Good luck.

Two dealers I dealt with have a diesel guy or two to work specifically on the deisel related parts. Non-diesel stuff any line tech can handle.
