My friend has an 02 F-259 SD with Powerstroke in it and he sunk the heavy thing down in a soggy yard last year. Well he was telling me something I don't believe is true and whoever told hime must want him to break it. He said the auto tranny in his truck you can be on the pedal and shift from drive to reverse without letting off of it.Said it's made for it and doesn't hurt it to do that. Also can somebody tell me why a Ford SD is soo much heavier than the other 3/4 tons compared equal in size.

LOL, He will get away with it a few times. Stupid people deserve to learn lessons the hard way.

this reminds me of that tootsie roll pop commercial..you know, 3 licks and crunch!!

Same thing.. count how many times he does this before you hear the crunch in the tranny.. lol

seriously though..no, its not good to do that and they aren't made for that. They are built for high torque, yes, but constant torque then changing direction? I don't think so. I see gear teeth and input shafts busting.

i agree, your not even supposed to park on a hill without using your emergency break....... so if that puts un-nessisary strain on the tranny then craming it into reverse like that doesnt seem like a good idea.

I figured that. When he was trying to tell me that I somehow stopped myself from laughing and just helped him get that heavy A$$ thing out. He told me today that he didn't say shifting while staying hard on the pedal he said slow down and then you can shift it from forward to reverse. I'd never shift my truck while the wheels are moving like that. Gotta be completely stopped or something before I'll change gears. The other question about why a Super Duty is soo much heavier is why?

Why is it heavier? A diesel egine weights a lot plus a big tranny, transfer case, dana 60, 14 bolt, leaf springs, why isn't it obvious?

Heavier then what? A Duramax? It's not much if any heavier.

Why is a Ford Super Duty the few pounds heavier than the other types of trucks. My friend that has the 02 ext cab Ford weighs in at 7400lb.s or something. That's probably about the same or more weight as a CCSB Duramax isn't it.

My reg cab weighed 6730 without the lightbar. I have added some stuff and am probably close to 6900#'s. It depends on the stuff you have added to em. I'm heavy for a reg cab. Iron heads hurt em. I dont think a ford is much heavier than a duramax though if at all. Ford does try to shave weight on the new PS buy running just 10 head bolts per side though):h

I'm sure the 1ft thick seats don't help in weight and also comfort. I'm sure it's mostly the big a$$ body that's on there too.
