Hi All,

Is too much ATF in the tranny a bad thing? I am not sure how I could have too much, I drained the pan today and replaced the filter. I put 7.5 quarts in and when I checked it was right at the bottom of the 'hot' band. Prior to changing the fluid I had driven for about an hour and a half, but the tranny guage was not higher than 120 or so and the truck was not running for a couple hours. I will check again tomorrow, just wondering. Thanks.

Too much fluid can cause the geartrain to churn the fluid because it is actually dipping in the fluid. This puts air in the fluid ( bubbles ) and does not lubricate very well. Overfilling also causes fluid to burp out the overflow and can land on hot exhaust possibly causing a fire.
