I was on a site called www.mrtruck.net (http://www.mrtruck.net), and saw these things called Centramic wheel balancers, anyone ever tried these before?

My bro-in-law has them on his semi and swears by them. Says they have greatly increased tire life.

I just ordered a set for the front of my dually. I cannot keep the tires in balance due to the rims. I will see if these help and give my opinion in a few weeks.

My rear tires are perfectly flat/even so I held out getting a set for those. (they may be cupped once in a while, but I do a burn out for 50 ft and they become even again :ro) )

I've had really good results with them. Less tire wear and great smooth feel.

or is that plate simply an inertia plate that lessens the vibration?

The older ones, '80, used weights (balls) in an oil, in a tube.

When they are Right, they are great; when they leak you'll take out a tire in 500 miles, or less.

Used some on my Big trucks, they all leaked. Long time ago though.

It's the same concept as what some of the offroad guys do with large offroad tires. I have a set of 47" michelin tires for my CJ7 and just plan on throwing some golf balls or tons of plastic airsoft BBs in it so the very little I drive on the road with them it's balanced.

update:

I have only had them on the front for a couple days, and my tires were cupped already and made my steering wheel shimmy at exactly 42 mph and at 67 mph....

Since I've had them on, I've had ZERO shimmy. I need to see if the tires wear themselves back to a more normal condition before I comment further.

Painted them black and you can barely see them through the wheels........

Early evaluation, I like them.......I will post again after 2,000 miles. ( 2 months )

I almost want to buy new tires to see how well they can keep balance...

Side note:
You do hear noises at slow speeds with window down ( like a maraca) (sp) but got used to it quickly.

At this point, they are on....hope it lasts and pays off. 10,000 miles with weights sure haven't done much for me.

Macarana? now you got me dancing......

I put on a set of the Centramatics at 99,600 miles just after replacing my left front hub/bearing and before driving from Ohio to Idaho. Still on there at 108,000 and have been doing a great job. My fronts were pretty cupped from the failing bearing and it didn't take long for the Centramatics to smooth them back out. I still have a bit of shimmy in the front, but I'm looking at replacing the original steering components at 108,000 miles of wear and think it's play in the joints.
