My friend has a set of 6.2L heads. The story goes that they came out of an engine that overheated and they got warped but were recently rebuilt. Of coarse this was in the early 90's. They've been sitting in an old shed ever since. Not sure what year they're from. Looks like they're red. Injectors are gone The threads look like fine at first glance. How fine are the fine theads and how coarse are the coarse threads? If they were warped can they be milled. How much? Would I get away without having them rebuilt?

The coarse threads are A LOT coarser than the fine thread ones. ONLY 82s had the coarse threads. If they're warped, I'd stay away from them. They're already notorious for cracks, warpage won't help structural integrity or longevity.

looked at my injectors out of my GM goodwrench and they look like they would thread into my free heads. They are painted red is the only thing that confusses me.

As stated, the '82 6.2 course thread injectors are unmistakable! The threads are REAL course!! All the rest from '83 on, are the same fine thread used today. You can look at the threads and see the difference.

It is always possible that someone could have painted some later model heads RED.

Back to the early 90's when those heads were rebuilt along with an engine could have been painted to match. If the coarse threads are unmistakable, I think mine must be fine threaded.

They're unmistakable. They only have about 7-8 threads per inch. That means big, deep-cut threads, only about five threads showing on the length of the threaded portion.
