Ok Im going to go a little outside the box here. It is getting cold out and for those of you that burn wood, make sure you have a clean chimney!!! I just bought my house in May. I used my fireplace for the 3rd time today and I had a chimney fire! Yikes! any way my point the Previous Owner probally never had the chimney cleaned and I found out the hard way. so a word of caution keep them chimneys clean! Every body stay safe.

My brother in law owns his own chimney sweep business here in CA and he sweeps his annually. He also gives seminars to firefighters to show them what to look for when before and after chimney fires. Here in CA they are cracking down and have no burn days. Just be glad you can still cut your own wood and burn in your own fireplace w/ out the gov't playing baby sitter.

I burned wood for 30+ years. I ALLWAYS checked the chimmney before the first fire of the year just in case a bird or something else got in there during the off season. I have geo thermal now,no cumbustion in the house unless i forget something on the stove.Fire extingushers still are a good idea along with smoke detecters and co detecters.

My dad would not use the fireplace unless it was cleaned before the first fire of the year every year. BTW bk95 you must be REALLY fond of the 6.2/6.5s to have so many of them! I want another one too. But i want a truck instead of another suburban.
