just drove about an hour and a half on really wet roads, the snow is melting like crazy today. anyways the problem was ,when I got back in town,at the first stop light I went to pull out and the tranny seemed to be stuck in 4th or 5th . ??? revved about 2750rpm before the truck would move. When I shifted it manually into 1st , it made a loud bang. went back home and tried it back and forth a few times in the driveway and it kept making the banging sound from Drive to Reverse . Engine light also on. I let it sit for about 1/2 hour and tried it again and seems fine now. anyone else ever experienced this??

You were in a partial limp management mode. By this I mean that there are strategys in the TCM that take over when the TCM sees the Ally needs help but not enough to set a limp and code. You are probably fine now.

You could have gotten water in the NSBU or another sensor. This has caused A hole lot of hart ache here in the great white north. Time to get out the old dialectric grease. Put it in all the electric connections.

P.S.
Next Time Pull over, shut off the engine for 10 second & restart if it's a soft code it will reset the trans.
had this happen when I misted the engine with a hose attachment, rinsing it after washing. my case, i think the juice connection got wet. had the same symptoms, dried out after about an hour and all has been fine since.

I agree, I think it's the NSBU switch. I thought GM fixed this problem by now?
