May be off-topic here but ...
Can someone tell me why the Duramax 4800 (4HE1-TC), the little turbo-charged four-banger that comes in the NPR (W3500) hasn't been considered as a candidate for light pickup diesel power?
And if more muscle is needed, then what about the six-cylinder inline 6HK1-TC which puts out 230 HP @ 2400 and 506 ft-lbs @ 1500. I know there are weight issues here, but the little 4HE1-TC might do well in a half-ton.
