My engine light came on and when I got my oil changed they ran the code a reset it. I don't have the code number but it refered to the turbo solenoid. The light just came back on so I indeed have an issue.

What exactly is the turbo solenoid and what is it going to cost me to get it fixed????

Thanks,
AKM

I'm guessing that's what moves the vanes. Looks like there's two of them. One is $26.38 the other is $165.58 from partszoneonline.com. Not sure what the mechanical difference is.

Probably one is the actual solenoid and the other is just the sensor. Two separate components.

Your turbo vein soleniod is what actuates the variable veins, and hence your boost pressure, inside of your turbo. Now there is a separate 'sensor' that measures where your veins are at. Both can go bad. Get your code #

Where is this located? I washed my engine yesterday...now my Attitude monitor shows crazy boost #'s and I can tell the exhaust has a strange tone. I want to make sure the connection is dry.

The turbo vein solenoid (the actuator) is located in the middle of the turbo on the passenger SIDE. The connector is a two terminal connector that is connected on the end of it. The turbo vein position sensor is the small one located in the middle of the turbo on the TOP. With usually one solid white wire coming off of it. Some are surrounded by a foil cover. The actual connector for the sensor is located on the driver's side of the engine underneath the two main engine connectors and the coolant line. Kind of a PITA to get to.

Shep. I'd start by unplugging your Edge connections first and make sure there is no water in there.

That's where I'm starting. I'm trying an alcohol based, quick drying electrical cleaner from CRC, wiped everything down, and air drying. I'm gonna use compressed air tomorrow. Thanks for the help...I saw the white wire right away.

Hope it helps. If your truck is still weirding out after that I'd question the Edge system.

Not to hijack your thread,
but when did the variable vane turbos come out?
I thought it was 06 or 07.

As far as I know, LLY's in '04.5 had the 1st VVT's.

anyone know how much a turbo vein position sensor costs?

they thought the sensor was bad on my truck @ the dealership, turned out to be the turbo. the sensor with labor was around $290 @ my dealership, then it was refunded cause the turbo comes with one. ended up costing me my deductible.

how did the dealership or you diagnose it to be the turbo.
thanks

After they replaced & tried to reset the check light it wouldn't reset. showing a code for the turbo. the vanes were being held open.

Sounds kind of fishy to me like the dealer is jerking your chain and robbing you blind. Sounded more like a loose solenoid connector or frayed wires to the solenoid, due to when you sprayed water on it went crazy. I had that code two years ago and found that a rat had climbed on top of the motor to get warm in the winter and chewed through my boost control wires. GL

My turbo isn't "sweeping" when I stand behind my truck and listen for it, it loads up when I baby it and when I hammer it it smokes like a Bitch. Dealer burnt up my ecm and replaced it and I've been having these issues ever since. There telling me they can't find anything wrong with it. It's still in warranty. Should I push for a new turbo since I've been driving it hurt for thousands of miles do to there lack of investigation?
