: TDC Top Dead Center Relearn ??

I have ecm preventing start after replacing. First was the no volts at 'A' terminal (green wire) at PMD/FSD and no fuel at injector. Then I did the security routine and it now allows fuel to pulse at the injector, and I have 1.8V at terminal 'A'. Still no start, I believe, is related to TDC relearn. How can I do this on the cheap?

Thank you.

Bob

Let me know if I am correct. I had swapped ecm's with another truck because of ecm code. It caused both trucks to have same problems and security clear procedure did work to get runner going and my 98 to proper voltage at terminal 'A' - also fuel pulses showed up at injector again. This is the same computer that came out of the truck originally. I had dirty fuel problems and did a little shotgun replacement of LPump, Lines(leaks fixed), PMD test by swapping into another truck, etc., voltage test at PMD terminals, ECM swap (and that created this lated problem). This original ECM seems to be functioning properly now so air was churned out and still no start. COuld TDC relearn be something that will work?

still should start without relearn. may run poor, but still run. Did you do the security thing on the original when you put it back in?

yep security thing on the original ecm that worked before. member here sent me a line with a link about crankshaft pos sensor and engine will work w/o CPS or Optic Sensor, but not both. I have tried the OS but will try CPS for kicks (even though I have replaced CPS). Now that all is working and even fuel is evident in pulses at injectors on front 3 on driver's side, am not certain that pulse is enough to pop injectors. I think IP may be bad and I will go mechanical this time (only 2K on this IP).

Thank you.

after replacing the ip it will take about 15 minutes to get it to start. you will need 2 strong batteries.

 15 minutes. It should not take that long! Let the lift pump run for a while to fill the pump, crack as many injector lines as you can, spin it over till lots of fuel come out, tighten lines and fire up. If it is bled properly it should not take fifteen minutes. You must crack injector lines to let the air out. Since air is easily compressed the pump cannot stroke enough to push it though the injectors

Crank a bit (10 - 15 SECONDS), REST a bit (like a minute). Between the high compression engine and a really high compression IP the starter motor and batteries really get a work out. Starter will usually burn up first if you crank for too long without letting it cool.

I may have been exagerating a bit. I just remember it took a while to get it primed before it would start.

I do think the IP is not pushing enough pressure. Dieselpro said I should pull a glow plug and look for smoke. I am sure I won't see any - I am sure. I have fuel pulses at the inj line. I am going to install clear fuel line to rule out 100% any air leaks - I am sure I fixed that a while ago. I am thinking about cracking all the lines and churning the starter with a direct infusion of that Mercedes stuff

OR straight ATF or Diesel Clean and try to get the pump back if that is it.
