: Met a Duramax the other day...
tdupuis 03-13-2005, 10:25 AM Friday night I was driving down the highway to pick up a friend's car, so I was towing my trailer empty. I'm coming up to pass this Duramax (which had an aftermarket exhaust on it, or at least a huge shiny tip), he accelerates and cuts in front of me, the nails it (at least that's what it sounded like from his exhaust). So, I nail it because I'm not going to let a Duramax get away. Well, we got going pretty fast and he wasn't able to pull away from me! I wasn't gaining on him, but I still had a trailer on back.
Pretty pathetic that a modified D-Max can't outrun a stock Cummins with a trailer on back.

Or a Cummins 600 with a trailer on back couldn't catch a Stock Duramax with only a chrome tip on it! :D
briano 03-13-2005, 10:52 AM Glad nothing went wrong and you were smart enough not to race someone on a freeway while pulling a trailer  - because that would be very dangerous/stupid if someone did that.
CumminsColeman 03-13-2005, 12:35 PM :ro) :grd: Time for a box to pass him with the trailer and have him rethink his purchase! haha

dpfcummins 03-14-2005, 07:19 AM So you dont have any clue as to what he had or didnt have for power adders. A modified exhaust doesnt exactlly make it a modified dmax in my book.
Bowtie Boy 03-14-2005, 07:32 AM Well I'm not to sure about the other DMAX owners out there but playing around with trucks of other makes is like fishing. You wiggle the bait a little and when they bite you can't jerk them out of the water you would lose your fish so playing around is the same way I see atruck and I nail it and leave him sitting the fun is all over so I toy with it a little. Sounds like the DMAX could SUCKER you in anytime now. BEWARE :muahaha:
tdupuis 03-14-2005, 04:22 PM I don't really care if it was stock OR modified. Point was I was at a disadvantage with a trailer, 3 guys + gear, and full toolbox.
Now, on the drive back was a different story (4000 lb car on trailer + at least 1000 lb in bed), but we all got a good laugh out of it. At least some of you folk did. :)
Hawkster 03-14-2005, 04:46 PM Ted, I got a laugh out of it!!! I guess the Chevy guys are a sensitive lot. Especially when eating Dodge dust.:grd: Which is often.:ro)
Here we go.......................

dmaxfan 03-14-2005, 08:21 PM Pretty pathetic that a modified D-Max can't outrun a stock Cummins with a trailer on back.Sorry, but I call BS. There is no way in hell that stock for stock with a dodge pulling a trailer that it can keep up with a dmax empty. One of two things is true.
1. You are totally full of sh!t.
2. Granny was hitting the brake instead of the gas.
If you are traveling through Ohio, bring your "empty trailer" through Dayton. I am an hour from there.
P.S. Mine has pipes too.
WilliamBos 03-14-2005, 08:39 PM I am with everyone else here...... Show us some pics to prove this, or tyo back up what you are saying here.

dozerboy 03-14-2005, 08:52 PM The Dmax probably had 1000 lbs. of scrap metal in the bed. If you call "all of the doors he has blown off" Dodges, scrap metal.:ro) :boxing:
tdupuis 03-14-2005, 09:44 PM Hey, believe what you want. My two buddies were in the truck with me and can vouch for what happened, not that it really matters what a bunch of sensitive people on a forum think.
Pics wouldn't prove it anyway, but a video would, and my friends and I are not the sort of folk who always roam around with a video camera expecting there to be something worth taping. The point was a funny story, which was obviously missed on some people (but not on others... glad some of you had a laugh at least!).
Y'all need to sit back, relax, and learn to laugh once in a while! I'm done with this thread. :)

a bear 03-14-2005, 10:16 PM Seems kinda hard for me to believe. Especially since history says the opposite. Are you sure he was racing you are were you the only one racing? I wouldn't expect a stock Dodge while trailering to beat a stock Chevy and also the other way around. All the whitnesses in the world have no way of knowing.

I didn't read the part where it got beat. And you can keep the racing of the 7000 pound trucks with trailers up there. Dumbest thing I have heard in a while!:badidea:

I read in a news magazine the other day the Chevy diesel is based on an Isuzu! That explains the lack of power since in Japan they don't need much power to push those little trucks.

yamahagrizzly 03-15-2005, 09:43 PM post like these leave people like me speachless. how do you argue with some one like this? i mean a truck pulling a trailor would give a s-10 a run for its money but not a unloaded truck, diesel non the less. then he comes on to a gm based forum and tells US that OUR trucks are no match to his mighty cummns pulling a trailor. get real. get a life. get a duramax.
as to the tuff guy who said that the d-max's got no power. lol open your eye bud. their d-maxes with 800 hp with a stock turbo and injectors. lets see a cummins do that. lets also see a cummins run 12 sec on a 6g budget. you guys need to do some research befor running your mouths.
joke. yes we can take jokes. we cant take idiots running their mouths swearing they raced some one pulling a trailor and beat them. common sense will let you know that no truck pulling a trailor will out do anouther truck in the same class no matter what it is.
i just dont get it.
gelecon 03-15-2005, 10:00 PM I've owned both.......Wouldn't line my dodge up against my old d-max anyday! It would be like going target practicing without any bulletts. Sorry dodge owners! I didn't buy the dodge for the quickness and speed.

I think that statement was alittle over the top. Don't you? Just because someone driving a Dodge comes on your site and makes a stupid comment doesn't make the rest of us Dodge owners "uneducated idiots".
I was going to say you Chevy guys take ribbing better than the Ford guys but I'm starting to wonder????

John
Oilbrnr 03-17-2005, 11:45 PM I've been reading posts like these for over six years now, and they never fail to amuse me.
The little 5.9 Cummins is the best diesel that is currently available from the big three, and has been since Dodge was smart enough to partner with them years ago.
Ford and GM guys just love pick at the Dodge, but the truth is they're jealous of that engine. The rest of the truck, well that is subject to real critizism, esp. the auto. The 47re drove me to the other side of the fence.
Love my GMC, but god I miss my ISB!

OK, so would you rather have an ISB. Blame the injection problems on Bosch, and our poor quality fuel. Not Cummins.
Floor It 03-18-2005, 12:10 AM Floor it...I see you have a b1....what boxes are you runnin cause on my 03 I couldn't keep them from exploding.
A B1-04 wastegated and a ATS exhaust manifold, I believe that the stock exhaust manifold (no matter what turbo you run) is the real problem. Having 4 cylinders feeding one side of the turbo creates too much drive pressure for any turbo, exspecially if its not wastegated. I have special program for the TST and a Edge EZ and Don M's edm injectors.

dpower 03-19-2005, 07:47 AM I had an ATS manifold and it still chunked 2 B1'S. The first tst to come out was extremely violent....way to much fuel for a single I suppose.
dpower 03-19-2005, 07:54 AM OK, so would you rather have an ISB. Blame the injection problems on Bosch, and our poor quality fuel. Not Cummins.
My trucks problems had zero to do with fuel quality injectors or bosch. What the hell do you know about the 3rd gen dodge's anyway.....its time for you to quit trollin around. Floor It 03-19-2005, 08:55 PM What B1's did you run? The one I have, I've been doing back pressure checking to make sure it doesent overspool. So far so good with only 8lbs more back pressure than boost and I know I've hit around 1800 plus degree's when pulling. Was yours wastegated?
John
Hawkster 03-19-2005, 09:54 PM [Remember quality is proven over time!!! Nobody knows diesels better than Isuzu,,,,do a research before you type!!!]
Hmmm, I don't know if I would be siding with Isuzu on quality. Don't need to see how they build stuff or do any research. I can just look at their cars and trucks 2-3 years old and notice how they are falling apart.
dpower 03-19-2005, 10:04 PM I had 2 of the ksb1's...if I remember correctly I pm'ed you a while back about where they came from? You had some similiar issues with race pumps from the same company not standing behind a product? I had mine blow on me over a year ago now...I am sure the set-up you have right now is much improved.

Filling it with BS...
Trolling? Whatever...
Look, I'm not saying that the Dmax is that bad, but to say it, as an engine, is superior to the simple, robust design of the ISB is questionable. If you had common rail injection problems on the CTD that was a Bosch issue not necc. Cummins.
I own a GMC (2 if you count the Denali XL) now because I needed a true CC, and really didn't like the Ford offering based on interior, ride, and transmission. My 47re on the Dodge gave me fits, and that is why I got rid of it and switch to the Dmax.
We all know that there are good and bad things on all three offerings. Right now I'm content with having a nice big ride, good transmission especially for towing my trailer, and will have to live with the engine.
Hawkster 03-20-2005, 04:34 PM Oilbrner, good response. All the trucks have some weak spots and we all get a little defensive when someone slams the vehicle we are driving as a piece of junk. I'm hoping my 48re is a better transmission, but the test of time will tell. One thing I think though is if we have Bosch problems it may be ok to blame Bosch somewhat, but my main gripe would be to DC for not doing enough development and testing before bringing this to the market. In the end they are responsible because they pick out all the hardware and it goes in their final product.
I haven't had any problems yet and hopefully won't, but only have 7k on the truck. A gasser should go 150k with no problems and I bought this truck to be one that will last a long time.
Let's hope the Chevys and Dodges give us good service.
c-hawk 03-20-2005, 04:39 PM :knight: damn cummins.I don't care who you are... that's funny right there.

BTW, I find it hard to believe that any brand "stock" truck pulling a trailer will out run any other brand "stock" truck.
Just my opinion.
fannypack 03-22-2005, 01:28 AM Friday night I was driving down the highway to pick up a friend's car, so I was towing my trailer empty. So, I nail it because I'm not going to let a Duramax get away. Well, we got going pretty fast and he wasn't able to pull away from me! I wasn't gaining on him, but I still had a trailer on back.
Pretty pathetic that a modified D-Max can't outrun a stock Cummins with a trailer on back.yeah, my guess is the duramax guy was probably irrated that you were in the fast lane pulling your home behind you, and had no idea that you were even trying to catch up to him. where do some of you come up with these fantesies?

That is Impressive to say the least. I didn't buy either diesel to race with. They both pull my trailers fine. In case people have forgotten that is what diesels are for pulling trailers. And Im not saying that I have never dusted anything in the MAX or the Cummins cough cough MUSTANG GT......FORD LIGH...cough cough.
