: More HP for 06
CAJUN86 03-13-2005, 09:07 AM Yesterday, what I think was a GM engineer, pulled up next to me at a stop light. He was driving a crew cab and I have a extended cab. He rolled down his window, so I did the same. He asked me if I liked the engine, I replied yes but it needs more power. He then said the engine in his truck was an 06 engine and that indeed there will be more power for the 06 Duramax's. The light changed and we both took off, and boy did I ever get my ass handed to me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif He pulled on me soooooo bad that I am thinking of ordering an 06 now. Also, he had a bunch of monitoring equipment bolted to the dash and numbering stickers on the tailgate. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
Bill Gisse 03-13-2005, 10:17 AM How long you lived in Rochester, my wife is from there, she lived on Avon Rd and I lived over on Auburn Ave, Have a sister in law that still lives there. We live in San Antonio now, much bettern weather. Do you ever get over by the Milford test ground to see what GM is running around the track.Roochester has grown a bunch since I left the area in 46. Haven't been ujp there to visit in about 9 years and imagine its grown a lot since our last visit.
StraitDiesel 03-13-2005, 01:15 PM I'm not sure if the 06' will have more power, but it would be nice... I plan on keeping my truck until the new bodystyle comes out in 08', depending on whether I like it or not. When will they release info on the 06' model updates?

No smoke that I could see, except from mine. Yea I wished I had the Juice at that time.

Been here for 37 years, and I am getting to the point where I want to leave. I wish it was still the farm fields, instead of vacant strip malls and subdivisions. -:t
Got Juice? 03-14-2005, 11:45 AM Too bad you weren't Juiced or something. Was there a lot of black smoke when he took off?
That would have been Classic..... A truck with a TTS Extreme or Juice or something to hand him his butt!
:ro)
gmcdenali2000 03-16-2005, 01:21 AM my dad sells allison trannys and he tells me the 06 will have a 6 speed
Max Owner 03-16-2005, 02:51 PM Six speed would be good.
Any ideas if it will give more lower end power, or lower RPMs at highway speed?
JRKRACE 03-16-2005, 03:57 PM I also poke around another GM-Trucks website and it seems that there is an engineer there as well. He claims that the new DMAX will put out 360 hp and 640 torque. Also posted a blurb about the 6 speed Allison. I just can't figure out why so much horsepower and so little torque for increases. I could be wrong, but I assume that if you raise HP by say 10, the torque should increase by something like 20. Am I off base?
LA DMAX 03-17-2005, 12:12 AM JRKRACE:
I think they did double the torque. My LB7 has 300hp and 520ft/lb torque. If the 06's have 360hp and 640ft/lbs than that is a 60hp increase and a 120ft/lbs of torque. A 1:2 ratio. I hope I am using the ft/lbs or lb/ft correctly, I get these two mixed up. Looks like it will be a stout motor with those numbers. I wonder what the EGT's will be. Later
LA DMAX
Barry Smith 03-17-2005, 01:24 AM I'd say it's a safe bet if it come factory with that power the EGT's will be about the same as the other D-max's. The factory tries to idiot proof everything.
turboburge 03-17-2005, 07:34 AM The six speed will be an additional overdrive gear. (0.61:1)
BTW, I live in Rochester too!
JRKRACE 03-17-2005, 11:39 AM Sorry....made a mistake on the torque...620 instead of 640...
McRat 03-17-2005, 11:49 AM If you saw a truck with a large amount of monitoring equipment bolted in the cab, you probably saw a "test mule". Hundreds of test mules are driven all over the country for various cars and trucks in the design stage. A lot of times there will odd, "fake" body panels or covering on them to disguise new body parts. But when testing powertrains, they often put them in current chassis's.
With that much boost in HP, we might see a different model turbo and improvements to the cooling system and trans.
aprr454 03-17-2005, 07:17 PM I hope I am using the ft/lbs or lb/ft correctly, I get these two mixed up.
LA DMAX
ft/lb and lb/ft are the same thing. It's a multiplication, 500lbs at 3ft is 1500lb/ft, 500x3=1500 like 3x500=1500.
LA DMAX 03-17-2005, 11:17 PM appr454:
I read in some mechanics manual that one of them is used when referring to power and the other is used when actually torquing down bolts or something to that nature.
LA DMAX
Dmax Tim 03-18-2005, 05:58 AM On the stock motors peak torque is made around 1600rpm and peak hp is close to 3000 rpm, so GM can make the computer put out any hp and torque combo they want.
Just like any of the power adders that are out.
The alli is the limiter for now, hi 600s torque is max right now.
The 5 spd alli we have now can be 6 spd w/ a valve body and programing so the new tranny may be the same thing we have now.
aprr454 03-18-2005, 09:25 PM LA DMAX, that very well could be. It must be for reference only to differentiate between torque(power) and torquing of a bolt. They are the same, I'm sure of it. Multiplicaltion obeys the law of combination, 4+3=3+4. Multiplication is just a fast way to add. 4x3=3+3+3+3=4+4+4=3x4
aprr454 03-18-2005, 09:45 PM Sorry....made a mistake on the torque...620 instead of 640...
If this is true, why in the world are they only going up 15lb/ft? Cummins is at 610lb/ft now, so in a year they could go to 625lb/ft. I read in Truck Trend that Toyota is coming out with a diesel that puts out 390hp and 700lb/ft. If this engine comes to life the big three are going to have some catching up to do.
As for right now, go 360hp and 680lb/ft. Put the right stuff in the trany and be done with it. This will put us in first for awhile. 110lb/ft more than Ford and 70lb/ft more than Dodge. And if it takes a few years to get the trany to hold that power so be it. That way it will be done right instead rushing it and having problems.
