: Camping mirrors
Thankful 03-12-2005, 09:50 PM I don't fully understand why but GM chose a regular mirror on the passenger side (camping type extendable mirrors). I would prefer a convex which reduces the blind spot. I almost side swiped someone yesterday going to the right lane.
Max Power 03-12-2005, 10:11 PM Now that I am used to my mirrors I hate convex mirrors.
If you are really not happy with your mirrors check out these: www.ttt-mirror.com (http://www.ttt-mirror.com)
Thankful 03-12-2005, 10:29 PM I like em a lot. But they are a little pricey ($400 - 550.) Worth remembering and considering after I get a fifth wheel. Thanks.
WAskier 03-13-2005, 01:22 AM I'm with you on this one Benburke. The factory camper mirrors suck a$$. The TTT's I put on are well worth the money IMO. There's just too big of a blind spot on the pass side of the truck with the factory stuff.
Ringer68 03-13-2005, 08:10 AM I bought a new 99 Silverado with the camper mirrors. After almost wiping someone out twice I got a little convex and mounted it on the top. Called GM's customer service and complained about the really lousy mirror but I might as well have been talking to my dog. New Sierra will have camper mirrors, so I guess I will have to deal with the same thing over again. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING!!!! You would think after 6 years they would realize those mirrors stink.
catch007 03-13-2005, 08:29 AM GM saved a few pennys in production at the cost of dollars of customer satisfaction!
cdlinstr 03-13-2005, 12:39 PM Power vision makes a small convex mirror setup that clamps to the mirrors i put a pair on my 05 dually they do help out they dont look bad and they beat not having a convex the set will costs about $26.00 plus shipping go to the power vison web sight to see how they look.
Max Power 03-13-2005, 12:47 PM Here is the web site cdlinstr is referring too: http://www.powervisionmirrors.com/models_specs_04.html
Look at the bottom of the page.
Ringer68 03-13-2005, 03:03 PM Power Vision's Mirror is the same that I have on my 99 Silverado. It does not look that bad and does a good job. I will definitly be transfering it to the new Sierra. Camping world also sells them.
DEWFPO 03-13-2005, 03:46 PM Thanks Max Power,
Those PowerVision Add-On Mirrors are EXACTLY what I have been searching for. I just ordered two.

barvis 03-13-2005, 04:01 PM Has anyone heard of McKesh Mirrors? Are they any good.
PERM01 03-13-2005, 09:51 PM I have the camper mirrors on my truck and I pulled my 5th wheel all last year and did'nt notice a blind spot at all.
SilveradoHD 03-14-2005, 08:13 PM I have the McKesh "strap on" mirrors. The nice thing is that they are only
installed when you need them for towing. In addition, they are only $150 or
so for a complete set and they work really well. We have a 102" wide TT and
you can extend the mirrors along a sliding arm as wide as you like. I don't
like the way they look that much, but they are easy to put on / take off in
a few minutes.
ssduramax 03-14-2005, 11:07 PM do the the extending mirrors fold in? I had them on my 03 but didn't think they did, then i traded for my 04 with regular mirrors. I then saw on Trucks an 03 i believe that got the edge attitude installed on it and it looked like the extended mirrors were folded in. Any way, I really liked the camping mirrors and cant stand the convex small mirrors but they are nice in tight parking spots and parking garages.
PERM01 03-15-2005, 08:44 AM Yeah the camping mirrors fold in.
Sherm 03-15-2005, 03:18 PM Umm, are you sure? My '05 mirrors don't fold.....
Oilbrnr 03-15-2005, 03:35 PM Umm, are you sure? My '05 mirrors don't fold.....
My '05 folds, both ways...
tophog 03-15-2005, 03:39 PM Blind spot ... get in your truck and sit as though you're driving ...with mirrors adjusted normally. Have someone get about 40 feet behind your truck on the passenger side about 5 feet over and start walking toward the truck ...parallel to the truck (simulating a car along the side). At some point the person will disappear from the mirror then reappear. I almost toasted 2 ricers on the freeway due to the blind spot ...never trusted the mirrors thereafter.
btfarm 03-16-2005, 08:15 AM Put a 2 1/2" stick on from wally world on the upper LH corner of mine and that did the job. I hate those convex RH mirrors for backing up a trailer (or worse yet a hay or grain wagon) but they sure are nice on the highway...:ro)
Sherm 03-16-2005, 08:40 AM I gotta ask....I have the electric extendable cammper mirrors and they do not seem to fold......Am I missing something?
Wasted Income 03-16-2005, 08:45 AM They aren't power folding like the ones with curb tilt. Put some grunt into it, they'll fold.
_MJB_ 03-16-2005, 09:18 AM I gotta ask....I have the electric extendable cammper mirrors and they do not seem to fold......Am I missing something?
They will fold easier if you extend them out first before trying to fold them.
clake 03-23-2005, 12:45 PM I,ve been driving Pick up trucks for 40 years, when i purchased my first truck with the convex mirrior i went and found a reg. mirrior to glue over it, my next truck also had convex, Hate them I still had to use a small convex spot mirrior, I purchased my 2004,2500 HD and was happy they use a standard mirrior, i just put convex spot mirriors on and i feel much more comfortable.
tbyrne 03-26-2005, 10:35 AM I have the regular electric mirrors now and really should have something that will allow me to see better while towing so I'm thinking about replacing them with a set of the factory camping mirrors. Has anyone here done this? I believe for the most part they will be an easy swap. A trip to the dealer might be needed to program the computer for them.
I know there will be some suggests for aftermarket mirrors. I've looked at most of them but haven't found anything that I like for my truck. I forgot the brand but there is a design that is simular to the F*rd trucks (those have a good design) but they stick out to far when closed.
JJs DuMax 03-28-2005, 04:58 PM I have the factory adjustable power in/out RV mirrors on my truck. I don't like that I can't see the back of the 5ver when towing or backing up. I guess I must be a bit too long for the factory setup. Has anyone with a long rig tried the TTT mirrors. I like the looks of those. JJ :)
