Hello All,

I've got an 08 Duramax 6.6 with allison tranny getting better gas mileage than my gas trucks. But now I have a dillema, as I'll tell below.
I've been reading alot. Tons of good info on these forums. I use my truck for work and IDLE for hours and hours every day. After reading the manual on the DPF, this does not sound good at all. So I was thinking getting a dpf delete kit and some kind of program to fix the problems that will arise doing this. I want to be able to go back to stock in case of any problems. So now I'm stuck as tuning out the DPF will be able to be seen when taken in to GM. I thought getting another ECM and program that and put the stock back on if a problem arises along with putting stock exhaust back on. But I've been told that will also be able to found out by GM. Anyone have any suggestions? It seems driving it stock will cause do more damage than modifying it, but then I will have issues with warranty possibly. So far LOVE this truck, like it better than my vortec max's. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

You summed it up. Going with another ECM the tech can figure out it has happened. Only thing that in the future EFILive may be able to backup the entire ECM and then restore it back so it looks like it has never been altered. But that looks to be a while away. If concerned leave it as stock and let it idle. If DPF goes bad then should be able to replace under warranty before 100,000 miles.

I really wanted efilive and was thinking the ecm swap would work till told differently recently. Would getting one of the piggyback modules work like uh what is it edge products or similar? Problem with just letting DPF go bad etc is that I need the truck to be reliable for work. I usually travel to the job 2-3 hours, then idle around the job most the day then 2-3 hours back.

Thanks
Mike

No piggy back module supports DPF delete. Currently only basic programmers like PPE Hot+, Quadzilla, and real programmer like EFILive.

Wow that really sucks. I hope these companies are working on some sort of workaround to this. Really bums me out. I have a predator, and CAI on my 06 vortecmax gasser but not on my 07. The 06 gets better gas mileage and I've not had one issue with it. My 07 that I never touched with anything aftermarket has had the transmission lose all forward gears once and the lifter banks collapsed 3 times. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for an update to one of these programmers or piggy backs come up with a fix for this. If EFILive came out with a workaround that would be great.

Yeah, your dilemma is what is making me unsure about trying to buy a brand new one when I get outta school, or go with a used one

Personally...if I were looking for one today...I would look for an LBZ. Cheaper, no dpf, maybe better mileage, and thicker metal are just a few reasons.

Well I already bought my 08. So I'm stuck finding a solution.

Why do you need to idle so much?

I'm a road and bridge construction inspector. So I'm usually idling in my truck doing paperwork, computer work etc. as the contractor works. If I shut the truck off no AC, and here in SW FL thats not gonna happen. =)

Did you get the fast idle option (RPO UF3) when you bought your truck? IIRC that's what it's designed for (i.e. sitting using the air conditioner or electronics as in an Ambulance).

I will have to check into that. I know when I was going through the DIC menu i saw High Idle as I scrolled through. I don't know if that means I have it or if its just standard for it to show up in those menus. I'm still driving the 07 until I get things figured out, so I'll check into it when I get home tonight.

IIRC High Idle (via the DIC) and Fast Idle are different. The Fast Idle would be accessable from the cruise control. High Idle, when set via the DIC, comes on and off depending on temperature.

The problem with letting it idle even stock is GM may still void your warranty claim. All manufacturers are looking at idle times more these days and using it to void warranty claims for things like injectors and now it would be a good bet dpf's will fall in that category. hpcr injectors don't seem as reliable and weather or not its extended idle times or dirty american fuel causing the issues they still may use idle time as an excuse.

Is there somewhere in the warranty that says something about extended idle may void the warranty? I dont see how they could even do that. my 07 sierra 1500 has almost 3k hours on it already. Do ou know of any posts or links to find out more information about this? That just blows my mind that they would try to void a warranty for using the vehicle you spent alot of money on how you need to use it.

Thanks

Nope, they can't do that.
