i have a 08 gmc hd2500 with a 6 inch fabtech lift and 35 inch tires on it and i want shim the rear out so it matches the front in width if its o.k to to do it

i have a 1/2 inch spacer in the front cv spacers and i am woundering if i can go with that in the rear or say even 3/8

i was looking at different spacers and i see some people say there isnt enough threads left if you put on 1/2 spacer , is this correct ?

i seen others that you bolt on and then you grind your stock studs that are left sticking out off and then use the studs on the spacer that was put on , i dont like the sound of that

i want if possible a slipon spacer that i can put on and not worry about things

what kind others using ?

In my opinion slip on spacers are the ones to be avoided. With a slip on spacer you are effectively putting a cheater bar on your wheel studs. I don't suggest anything more than 1/4" and even then I avoid it at all costs.Bolt on wheel spacers are another thing, and I have no qualms running them on anything. They bolt to the spindle and then have studs of their own that bolt to the wheel. Because they bolt on just like your stock wheel the studs are only loaded in sheer, not bending so they are as strong as the wheel if not stronger. The problem is you can't get them in sizes less than 1/2" and even the 1/2" spacer requires you to shorted the nose on your stock studs. This is the "grinding" you probably heard about. This won't effect the strength of the stud in any way, it will just keep them from sticking out of your spacer. You may want to throw a tape on the truck, I bet you could use 1/2" or even 3/4" spacers to get the rears even with the front. Stock the rear end is about 1" narrower than the front.

i didnt want to cut the stock studs off even alittle because if i ever go back to stock the stock studs would be to short , the 1/2 was the spacer that was put in with my lift so i figured that was all i needed but if your saying the in stock form that they are a 1 inch wider anyway then would i have to cut any of my stock studs off with a 1.5 spacer ?

thanks for the input so far

how much wider is the front? I thought the newer fabtech stuff wasn't pushing the track width out much. Might want to find out if it's a newer kit or not.

its the newer kit and its a 1/2 inch spacer in the cv area , which makes it a 1 inch wider then stock overall and i dont like the look and if the front is 1 inch wider from the factory then its going to be 2 inches wider which i really dont like the look

Sorry Mike I forgot you had the newer 1/2 kit this am when we talked. Yea I think the 2" will be to much and anything less you will need to cut your stud's and that would suck if you needed to take them off and just run the wheel.:(
