OK guys,
I need honest answers. I have an 04 Dmax and am not happy with the fuel economy. I am pulling a 15K, 40' trailer. Any of you Dodge guys have some realistic fuel milage figures to share. Let me know if your running DRW,3.73 or 4.10's. Your help would be appreciated. Thinking about jumping ship.
Thanks

I have had both. My d-max with 3.73 gears got about 2.5 mpg better than my cummins does. This is empty. Towing with my d-max I was getting around 14.7 with a 10.000 lb load. I have not towed with the cummins yet. Gearing is the same in both trucks with same options.

bludmax, I get 18-19 with on highway and no load. 12 mpg towing 7k pound travel trailer. 4.10 gears, 04.5 model 2500. Stock. The 12 valve engines are better for economy.

Also have had both. At higher speeds solo the Duramax did better. Moderate speeds solo and the Cummins gets 20+mpg.
For towing the Cummins is much better. Simple as that.

gelecon,it will get better once you tow. A Cummins that doesnt pull can take 20-40000 miles to break in easily. Also there is a reflash for fuel mileage, the early 600s needed it ,they didnt get great mileage.

My cummins has already been re-flashed....camper and equipment trailer will be on the road soon. Hopefully this will help to seat the rings sooner :) Thanks for the info.
