I'm still new to these trucks and after reading a bunch of posts here, I've got a question.

I remember getiing a letter about injectors a while back. Filed it away as truck was fine.

Well today I get the truck out, I needed to drop the 5th wheel off for a recall on the fridge, the truck had a bit of hesitation. As I got home The engine had warmed all the way up and oil pressure was below 30, never noticed it that low. So I checked the oil and instead of being low it was higher than when I filled up last week I'd say about a quart.

Took it to the dealer and told the girl what was going on. There was a tech at the desk, and he immediately said I wasn't gaining oil I had fuel in my oil. She told me he was the diesel tech and he explained what the problem is. He said they they would fix it but I would be responsible for an oil change and fuel filter change. Said it should be ready Tuesday or Wednesday.

The post I read talk about gallons of diesel in the oil. Did I just luck up and catch this early?

Same thing happened to me at 155k mi. I had diesel residue all over and it must of spewed out dipstick and any place it could. They replaced all 8 injectors and they covered everything including oil change, a tow and a rental vehicle. I was concerned of internal damage and they told me they have seen this many times and it would be fine. It has been 20k mi and it runs as good as new.

I was curious as to why I would have to pay for the oil change since the fuel was causing the need for it. Bu didn't see point in arguing since the service manager wasn't there.

Maybe there trying to make up for the 19.95 oil and filter change coupon they e-mailed me. They didn't put any exclusions or limits on the coupon but said it didn't mean diesels. But finally gave in.

FWIW my truck has 71k miles on it.

Since u have fuel in the oil.. u've got a injector prob more than likely.. and since that model d-max has a 200,000 or 5 yr warranty on the injectors they should have to repair or replace anything that has failed because of the factory screw up. thats just my opionion.

If they are replacing injectors under the special policy they should be changing the oil and and oil filter, but for what injector swap is worth (4-6g at most dealers) I'd just let them do it and I'd happily pay the oil change. When mine were done gm paid the oil/filter and I paid the fuel filter.

Its a 7 year or 200,000 mile warranty on the injectors for 2001-2004.5 Lb7 motors from the inservice date( they day it was bought). I found fuel in my oil about 2 weeks ago. Dealer covered everything and charged it on the warranty. They are my first set and I have 186,xxx miles. Hope these hold up that long!!!

How did you know there was diesel fuel in your oil? Was it based on an increase in oil volume only?

Basically yes. I didn't realize what it was until a tech at the dealership told me.

I check my oil at each fill up. Might as well do something useful while you pump almost 30 gals.

When I stopped last weekend, I noticed the oil was around half way up the notches in the dipstick. Not quite full but not down to add. As I said, while taking the 5er to the repair shop, I noticed oil press was lower than normal. So I checked the level, thinking I could be loosing oil, and it's above the full mark. That's when I went to the dealer.

If they insist on charging you for the oil change ask them where the diesel came from that necessitated the oil change. The answer will obviously be the defective injector(s). If the defective injectors caused the issue and they are warrantable then why are you paying for the oil REPAIR?
Escalate it as high as need be for them to get real! If in the end you get screwed then send a copy of the bil to GM asking for reinbursement and find a new dealer.
Good luck

Picked up the truck this afternoon. Runs good so far. They said the special policy didn't cover fluids they replaced or filters. Cost me $154.00 with all 8 replaced. Rather than PO a service department that took care of me, I'll take that up with GM.

But I was a bit concerned that they racked up over 70 miles on the truck.

Will having that much oil and fuel in your oil pan wreck your engine?
