I was wondering if anyone has wig wags on their truck. If so did you buy a kit? I would rather not have to cut into my factory wireing harness if at all possible.

I dont have wig wags but I know Galls.com carries them as well as many other safety equipment stores. I do not know if any come with a harness for no cutting or not. Personally I prefer my hideaway strobes by Tomar(the brightest around) to any Wig Wags I have seenhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif

do the strobe kits lot brighter and can be from a 2 way kit to a6 way that I have seen. Had the strobe on another truck. Check with some of the specialty outfitters for like police cars and fire trucks.

Here is a link for the kit I bought they were excellent to deal with

It is a little pricey but for what it is I feel it was worth it. They also have a wig wag listed.

I think you will be happy with them plus you can get front and rear warning, on GMC you can mount the fronts in the headlight or marker light but I believe the chevy headlight is different. In the rear you can put them in the taillight in any place just be careful andd remove factory bulb before you drill, I forgot and killed a brand new silverstar when I did my headlights. My rear are in backup lamp, not alot of clearance but it will fit take your time. Here is a pic of my install.

Just my 2 cents.

Wig Wags are more noticable than any other type of warning light to the front. This includes LED's and the "good" strobes from WHelen, etc. Strobes are good at night but they wash during the day which means they are not as noticable.

We no longer spec any of our fire apparatus with ANY strobes. It is all LED. EVERY truck gets wig-wags.

I figure in a few years strobes are going to be outdated. LED's are the thing. Low power, more visible than strobes, long life, no bulbs to replace.

do they have a way of hiding the LED's yet, or are you talking about adding additional light housings?

You do relize that in most states wig wags are illegal to all but emergency response vehicles? Not busting your balls just making sure you dont get into trouble if you wernt aware

wig wags are generally illegal, My comment was directed at the initial question.

Also flashing white is generally a no no. Depends on color, IIRC some states dont like having any flashing lights in the headlights if your not emergenry responce, even amber.

Depends on the cop though and generally if your not doing something stupid they wont jack with you. I have a clear strobe in my lightbar and havent gotten hasseled. The clear does grab attention.

Rat, you are exactly right.

In my state it appears that any such lights are illegal, but there is a provision to allow highway maintenance and utility vehicles install a "white light system" in the headlight assembly or grille area.

However, I had wig wags on an older truck of mine one time and used them when my brother had wreck and the trooper didn't say anything (this was back before I knew the law).

There are also exceptions for firefighters, but I can't find any for LEOs....

it varies state to state greatly! Leme try and find a site that has a basic listing whats ok and not.

I would ask the SOS for a copy of the laws of your particular state. They sent me a complete listing of all the codes and whats ok and not for free. Its thick and not exactly the most fun reading but you wouldnt believe how many laws there are that you dont know about. Luckily most cops dont know em either or dont hassle people for BS things unless you piss me off.

yeah, I have a copy of all of the laws, at least all of the ones that I can find that are related to lights.....

I used lexis nexis to search the laws....

Now if you can get you hands on some "real world" interpretations of the laws that would be great. For example I could not really find anything related specifically to tow trucks....

this is very true. i have a set of strobes, whelen 90w power supply, running on my POV. i am going to look into getting some wig wags, cant see the strobes during the day.

I plan on simply getting amber rear facing strobes, or putting amber strobes in the taillights because I end up pulling so many people out of ditches in the winter. Any warning system would be better than simply hazards.

Of course, I get to toss on blue strobes and a dash light once I start up with chugiak VFD...

Ok, Just my 2 cents. In Georgia you can run white strobes, you can not run yellow, green, red, or blue with out a permit (from Georgia State Patrol). You can not have any colored lights - flashing or not on or about the car or truck. I do know people that get away with it, I also know officers that will write that ticket and win in court. It's like the window tint law, if they need a reason....well here it is.
