I Opend The Vains On My Turbo At Idle So It Could Sound More Like A Lb7 At Idle Only 0-800 Rpm Will This Hurt My Turbo? Has Any One One Done This For A Long Time Or Many Miles? I Work At A Gm Store And My Diesel Tech Claims That The Vans Must Move Back And Forth To Keep From Seizeing From The Heat.

Mine has sounded like an LB7 at idle for quite some time, I like the rumble and intend on keeping it that way. I don't see how that could damage the turbo, the vanes are moving around while you drive anyway.

I've noticed that my egts cool faster at idle with the vanes open, more so than when they are in the stock setting.

Mines been that way for a while. It still does it's sweeping but settles low and deep. If you get a loud buzzing sound when you shut the engine off PM me, Duramaxtuner (Aka Nick) fixed mine.

not sure what you mean by loud buzzing sound

On my 06 LLY, after we opened the vains at idle, you would get a loud buzz when you turn the key off. We found the vanes were trying to go back to some point! Nick set the vains to close a little while the rpm dropped. It worked! There's a thread on here about it because others were hearing it as well.

I even saw a LMM do it once.

Same happened on my LBZ....10 seconds after shutdown, a loud 'electrical buzz' is what I compared it to sounded....and I mean LOUD!

That's the one! You can still have the "rumble" idle, just have to change the vain movement as the engine is shutting down.

What changes were made to get rid of the buzz?... Thanx.

mine does it too, what table do we modify to fix this.
I had no idea what the noise was but someone told me it was normal.

i haven't personally done it but i would imagine that you change the position in the 300 rpm column and from 0-15 mm^3 rows back up to 80%

Baller's on it:). Change the columns below idle RPM back to stock.

Didn't the early LMM's also do this stock? Mine did but I thought I heard that it was the throttle valve cycling.

It is the throttle vain cycling on the LMM's. This is different.

So that is what that is. I just made some changes to my tune, about 2 weeks ago, and had this noise, I hadn't listened real close to it, I just figured my lift pump was the culprit, guess not. This is why I like this site, people helping people.:D

there is a lot of potential in the vain tables. not for power so much, but for heat and less retriction performance.

I keep my vanes at 2% from 0-15mm3 and 0-800 rpms. I haven't heard the Buzz at shutdown ever, I'm gunna have to listen for it.

My personal LBZ is the only one that has happened to. The other LBZ's and LMM's ive tune have never had this issue. Only thing we could find out is that I have the earliest LBZ OS...I believe florida does too...other than that IDK! :D It sure is loud though, the only way I could explain it is about 5000 bees swarming at me (that loud)...didnt sound good. :D

The 08 LMM I tuned did it as well:o:. Went back and changed to what Nick said and all is well. My buddy bought another 08 or 09 (IDK which) dually and I'll have it this weekend for straight piped duals and programming so we will see if this one does it also.

Yeah IDK know about the OS's i have 6128 and there is only one newer OS than that for the LBZ. And not only that the LMM's are doing it too... A

And yeah the buzz scared the sh!t out of me the first time i heard it. Sounded like a large electrical resistance buzz.

I was expecting a fire to start....;) I was at a store and people started to get really nervous....especially when I just walked away when it happened the second time knowing what it was...:D

I noticed my EGT's don't come down to 350* as fast before I turn it off. Guess thats the down side.

just heard mine to it today after i threw in a modded stock vane table. mine was 96% closed from 600-1000 rpm and 0-15mm3 so i think i may want to back that down to 90%

also, would 5% closed at idle be alright?

Will the "buzz" hurt my truck? I just recognized it today and I have the vains opened for a while.

I put this together for people who dont know the sound if you guys didnt see this already...

It seems to only be on some trucks weather you put it to 0, 10, or 20, some wont, some will. MINE DOES as you can see... :D

DUDE... THERE'S NOTHING TO FIGURE OUT!Read post 15 in this thread. I'm the one who originally reported this and Nick..AKA....Duramaxtuner fixed it! You still have the rumbly idle without the "buzz" at shutdown!

I had the same problem (a while back) so I searched this thread. Just set your 300 RPM column back to stock, it worked for me.

That sounded like the halftime buzzer at a basketball game. Mine was never that loud when it did that.

Does this make the exhaust sound like it does when you are taking off slow at idle and the vanes change position and it sounds real deep for a couple of seconds? And will it also keep it from switching at idle? I get alot of funny looks with that. I dont know anything about efi live but I have a friend that could do mine for me.

06Dmaxpwr
01-17-2009, 09:17 AM
You can get the deep rumble like the LB7's that have stock without a vvt. Yes, its the rumble you get when it shifts at idle, low speed conditions cycling through the vanes.
